More than half of Twitter’s top 1,000 advertisers stopped spending on platform, data show

New YorkCNN — More than half of Twitter’s top 1,000 advertisers in September were no longer spending on the platform in the first weeks of January, according to data provided to CNN by digital marketing analysis firm Pathmatics, in a striking sign of how far reaching the advertiser exodus has been following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company.

 

Some 625 of the top 1,000 Twitter advertisers, including major brands such as Coca-Cola, Unilever, Jeep, Wells Fargo and Merck, had pulled their ad dollars as of January, according to estimates from Pathmatics, based on data running through January 25.

 

Wells Fargo said it “paused our paid advertising on Twitter” but continues to use it as a social channel to engage with customers. The other brands did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I don't know much about advertisement business. But I am sure they, like almost any other business, like consistency. When the boss changes rules from one day to the next that is not what companies want. They also don't want that maybe two days later the rules are returned or changed again in another way.

 

I don't know if Elon Musk cares about a couple of billions of dollars. But in case if he cares then maybe he should think a day or two longer about his decisions. And maybe he should think about possible unintended consequences. Last but not least maybe he could talk to experts in the field about these things.

Did any of the other major social media providers experience the kind of fall that Twitter did?

I don't know but I know they all fired a large percentage of their workforce.

 

They didn't do that because people are using facebook less, or did they?

Elon Musk Resorts To Asking Users To ‘Like’ Competing Electric Car Ad On Twitter

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter who’s reportedly struggling with engagement on his social media platform, personally asked Twitter users to like a car ad for Hyundai on Friday, it was the latest sign that Musk may be out of ideas on how to make Twitter profitable.

 

“Press the heart,” Musk tweeted to his followers on Friday about the car ad.

 

The ad, which features actor Kevin Bacon and his daughter Sosie Bacon, is for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car, which is a direct competitor of Musk’s own electric vehicle company Tesla.
