Declare cash more than USD 20,000.- at Suvarnabhumi Airport arrival

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Did anyone bring in more than USD 20.000.- cash and declared it at customs at Suvarnabhumi airport?

- How was the process? Easy / difficult / frightening?

- Did they ask you about the source of funds?

- Did you get an FET form?

Thanks

Just a heads up that a while ago (some years) it was posted that this figure had been reduced to 15k USD.......

I can't find the link at the moment.

Also bear in mind that, depending where you're travelling from, you may well need to declare the cash on departure.

Eg the UK requires this for amounts of £`10,000 or more for the combined group you're travelling with. Even if you have less than this, they have sniffer dogs specifically trained to find cash. If signalled and even if your cash amount is well under £10k, they can confiscate it on the spot if you cannot prove right there and then how you obtained it. Many flights have been missed and holidays ruined because of this. That £10,000 or more limit is not just cash either. Covers some cheques, bullion and a few other things.

Why would anybody bring that high amount of cash? If you plan on using it all here make sure you check all the notes for imperfections! Some exchange and banks get anal and want pristine bills. Also some exchange places will only do a max of 4k per day!

Risky

It is a commodity. You wouldn't want bruised apples would you????

Some people aren’t aware of this , especially new comers to Thailand.

In my country 100 dollar notes often have random rubber stamp markings, random pen marks, corners ripped !

When one brings cash they expect to be able to exchange all the notes and not have to hold on to them cause Thailand institutions  refuse to honor them.
