Popular Post Brewster67
Well, I could see this one coming. The house three doors down has two dogs, from 6am to about 10pm they open their gate and leave it open all day. They let their dogs just come and go as freely as they please. These doge use anywhere they wish to use as their toilet and this is probably the reason they keep their gate open, so their neighbours have to clean up after their dogs. Another thing they do is lie bang in the center of the road and you literally have to creep right up to them before they can be bothered to get up and move away. They also are quite viscious, I literally can not walk round the corner to the shop without them barking and snapping at my heels.... Needless to say I am anything but fond of these creatures and I have nothing to do with that ignorant heighbour who will just stand on their porch watching their mutts harrass people and do nothing to stop it. My kids are literal prisoners of the garden. Well a few days ago my wife was returning home at about 8pm and as usual one of the mutts was lying in the road, she slowed right down to let it move out of the way, then after she thought it had moved she started too drive forward again when she heard this noise coming from under the car that sounded like a humpety bumpety sound... she stopped the car and then saw the dog coming out and dissappeared into the neighbours garden. It didn't look like it was limping and it didn't yelp or anything, so the wife parked the car outside our house and came inside and told me. I have to say, I smiled quite a bit and congratulated her, especially when she said there was nobody around to witness it. I told her to just forget it. Last night the wife got a message from our next door neighbour saying that somebody had seen her drive over the dog and that the neighbour was pi88ed off that she hadn't bothered to come to see if the dog was alright. The wife replied saying she didn't even know she had run over the dog, the wife then told me.... I just said DENY DENY DENY, if it aint on video it didn't happen and this witness must be mistaken, and with no actual evidence then nothing can be proven. The father in law says they will probably come to ask for compensation, I said they get nowt. Apparently the dog isn't even injured yet has not eaten any food for days. In summary... If you let your dogs out in the street all day terrorising your neighbours and letting them cr@p up and down the steet and just let them lay in the road, then when something bad happens to them..... THEIR FAULT. Compensation?..... yeah right, I wouldn't give 50 baht for those flea bitten Heinz 57 Variety soi dogs. I have no animus to dogs, in fact I am quite fond of the house pet variety owned by responsibe people, but those two.... Different matter. Popular Post Artisi
job well done (or half done if it limped away), I'd compensate my wife but with clear instructions to do it properly next time. 10 1 2 4 2 2

Popular Post ThailandRyan
Soi dogs is what they truly are as the owners can't be arsed to care for them. I would call the police and show them video of the dogs being vicious towards passerby who tru to walk by them. 4 1

Can only think they are reducing their water bill and frequency they have to pay for the 'poo pumper' tanker? 4
Popular Post jvs
Easy to get the owners to be quiet, tell them the car has been damaged and ask them for compensation. Odds are they will deny it was their dog. It is not nice if someone runs willingly over a dog but your wife is not to blame here at all. Maybe the mutt has learned to stay out of the road. 9 1 3 2

Shop mak
If wife use thai logic = she know you have to pay compensation, if dog owner report this to police, and if they care to visit your home. All other are irrelevant in Thailand. Be prepared to pay up / negotiate down how much to pay. You as foreigner stay out of this 100%. 1 2

We keep a heap of sand in the garden and cover the deposits. Using a hose on the concrete soi just spreads it. Our soi is a quiet cul-de-sac and the other neighbours let their dogs loose continuously. You can imagine the mess!
connda
I saw something similar on Thai TV where a CCTV camera caught a car slowly running over a dog in the road. From what I could tell the police got involved as running down dogs, like you wife did, is considered criminal cruelty. Lucky for you they didn't have a CCTV.

According to my wife, if someone hits your dog because it is running in the road, the dog's owner is responsible for damages to your car. However this is a little different as this dude's wife ran over a dog simply laying in the road, she saw it and knew it was laying in the road, and decided to run it over. And it sounds like the OP and his wife are very happy about running the dog over anyway. Don't worry unless the police show up. And hope your neighbor doesn't own a gun. Give your neighbor wide berth if they are carrying a machete. Edited February 25, 2023 by connda 1 1 2
BostonJoe
If the police do show up and climb under your wife's car You know they will find dog hair attached to a bolt or something . I owned a Collision shop back in the states When a customer hit an animal and drove it over the undercarriage is covered with evidence Good Luck
Popular Post soi3eddie
A few years ago I was staying with a GF at her house in a moo baan in Pathum Thani. The whole village had loads of dogs roaming around. The dogs were owned by people but never let in the houses, just in front on the street where they would get fed. The howling and barking at night by all these dogs meant broken sleep for everyone. A neighbouring dog was loudest. One day it had been hit by a car and died. The owners were very distressed but I couldn't see why, as they never really interacted with the dog or let it into their house. Better sleep followed the demise of that dog (and no, it wasn't me that hit it). Edited February 25, 2023 by soi3eddie 3 1 1 2
Popular Post brianthainess
Dogs are not the only problem for me, one place near me, uses the road as a frigging farmyard, chickens, chicks and to top it off a huge fat pig that lays in the road just around a bend. 1

Give your neighbor wide berth if they are carrying a machete. Way over the top and over-dramatic post... The wife didn't DELIBERATELY run it over and there is no proof, the dog isn't visibly injured and you live in a very different Thailand to me, because I have been here 13 years and I see more violence in the UK in a year than I have seen here in all my time here.... YOU must live in a part of Thailand where lunatics are running all around the place with machetes and guns... I would leave that place right now if you have two braincells to rub together. There will be NO compensation, the Thai family is way too well connected to the police for that to be enforced. Soi dogs have ZERO value to us, but you are right about one thing.... I AM happy. 2
Popular Post Sheryl
If the dog is not eating then it is possible there are internal injuries. Needs to be evaluated by a vet. Simply having run off does not necessarily mean uninjured. Compensation issue hinges on nature of injuries if any. 6 1
Popular Post Gecko123
No compensation, but a show of contrition is in order. Eye witness is going to be believed over wife's denials. OP is ignoring reputational damage and long-term relations with neighbor. Some of these guys, who by Western standards are irresponsible pet owners develop surprising bonds with their dogs, even though there's next to no outward demonstrations of affection. You don't want your next door neighbor harboring a grudge. Just go over with the wife and apologize. If you're pretty sure the dog's not going to keel over from internal bleeding any minute now, offer to pay 100 baht towards a checkup at local vet, just as a goodwill gesture. 3 2 1
Elkski
Those dogs just sleep 8n the road and even if you slow down they don't move until you are so close they can't be seen so you need to just assume they have moved. Hope everything works out. Seems like dogs have more eights than people in Thailand. ? Why is this? 1
daveAustin
Careful careful. As you say, probably best to deny but wouldn't bring up any of the above if sh*t happens since it might suggest means. If it came to it. say sorry about that, didn't notice. Tell the police they attack kids on bikes and old folk walking. 5
