he was, in fact, according to him, just stooping down to pick up an inhaler that he had dropped

That's okay then. It tells you all you need to know about Thai drivers. He put his passengers in danger by retrieving an inhaler, because that was far more important than keeping his eyes on the road. No wonder the tourist screamed, and in true Thai fashion making it someone else's fault, he blamed the tourist for reacting to his dangerous driving.

Because trying to shift blame is only a Thai thing. Jesus.... ????

But the driver doesn’t use an inhaler…

does dozing off and reaching for an object mimic the same behavior?

will the screamers be charged? I bet the driver didn’t get a tip…

How did the company get them to their destination and return? Sounds costly for the van company or it should be…

why in the hell bring Jesus into it….have some decency

Who wrote that? I missed it. You do know this a forum about Thailand, don't you? Which is why what is said here is related to Thailand. That's not too difficult to work out for most of us.

How could you miss it? It was in the post I quoted. On the Chang early today?...

Its a forum about Thailand, NOT a Thai-bashing forum. And especially when the remark was so ridiculous.

Thanks for the chat....

It's a forum about all things Thai, not a rose coloured glasses only forum. Unlike the locals, we aliens don't ignore the faults and pretend they don't exist. Rather like you want to do, it seems. We discuss them, which seems to offend you and which is probably at least part of the reason officialdom does no more than tolerate us here. They prefer to keep such things under the carpet. Not wanting to confront reality has always been a problem here, and your reaction suggests that it is a problem for you too.

No dummy, my point was that it's just stupid to say that THAIS like to deflect blame when it's just the human condition, worldwide. Got it now? I don't defend Thais, I just prefer some actual intelligent comment.

When in your home country have you ever heard a driver blame a crash on someone screaming?

If someone screamed unexpectedly at me I could certainly lose my concentration through shock. Why is that hard to believe? I don't even know if that happened here, but that's not what your saying, is it?

Anyway, it's utterly insane that because I said it's wrong to single out Thai people for being a nation that tries to deflect blame more than others, that I'm then accused of defending this driver. Some members of this forum really are hard of thinking....

Thank you for your concern. Did you have any comment on the actual content of my post?

Just the bit that offended him, nothing germane to the subject.

It's quite pathetic that anyone who writes disagreeing even slightly with someone who makes a blatantly racist comment (in this case: 'typical of Thais, trying to deflect blame') is always accused of 'defending Thais'.

Low-born and uneducated Thais behave and respond in exactly the same way that similar people in New York or London or Melbourne do. Some are offensive. Most are fine.

There are many bigots in the world, it's the law of averages that some of them will subscribe to this forum. That doesn't mean that their racially-motivated insults should be ignored.

Lose your concentration maybe but veer off the road....no. This is driving not mental arithmetic.

I didnt say anything about Thais blaming others for any reason. I just asked you if you have ever heard of somebody use this excuse in your own nation which you didnt reply but instead decided to go off on some other rhetoric!

The post I replied to did. You just cherrypicked one part of my comment. Try to follow the thread mate

The reaction of one person to a scream will be very different to another, don't judge everything by 'what I would do'. No arithmetic necessary.

Westerners are so caught up in that 'time is linear' thing. The woman may have screamed because the driver was about to hit the tree, but if one removes linearity, the scream caused the driver to veer toward the tree, eliciting the scream in reverse.

It's easy when cause and effect are not bound by linearity. In fact, it may have been the broken leg of the passenger that prompted the driver, out of great concern and empathy for his passenger, to drive faster in the first place. The broken leg passenger should be grateful, not critical.

In Thailand, anything is possible.

When I did a visa run to Cambodia,  upon first entering the vehicle I screamed at the driver to slow down. He said "We haven't left yet".  I said "Now you know what it will look like". Had a peaceful ride with all four tires on the ground at all times.
