TheLaughingMan Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Heard this rumour several times, that you can apply for retirement visa in the year you turn 50 even if its before your actual birthday. Any truth this?

Popular Post markeewan Posted March 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 21, 2023 No truth apparently. 1.1 Applicant must be aged 50 years and over (on the day of submitting application). https://www.mfa.go.th/en/page/non-immigrant-visa-o-a?menu=5e1ff71bc4281a00c812e8e2 4 2 1
Popular Post marioc Posted March 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 21, 2023 Around 12 years ago, I applied the same day of my birthday. They told me to come back the day after which I did and everything went fine. I could get my retirement visa 2 months later. This happened in Chiang Mai Immigration Office. Regards. 4 1

It went exactly as you described. 1
Popular Post JBChiangRai Posted March 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 21, 2023 I applied on the Friday, my 50th birthday was on the Saturday. I got my extension and a couple of hours later got a call from immigration telling me to come back for it to be canceled, they kept the money of course. This was Jomtien, a good few years ago. 3

You would not have been obtaining an extension approx date of 50th birthday. You would have been applying for non O retirement.

Folk ask about the process to non O and subsequent extension based on retirement or marriage from visa exempt/tourist visa daily. Your post was not even close. Hardly semantics. 4

If previously on a Non Immigrant permission to stay for another reasons (such as marriage or working) it would be possible, albeit very rare, to apply for the retirement extension on your 50th birthday. (Yes, applying for the "conversion" visa from a tourist (or visa exempt) entry would be more likely.)

From the Thai Immigration Government website 22. Visa Extension in the case of retirement etc etc etc I was previously on a non-immigrant visa issued by the Royal Thai Embassy in Hull (UK). Actually, I went the Elite route (20 yr) almost 5 years ago because.
novster Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Yes I am currently in Thailand on a Non Immigrant permission to stay based on education and turn 50 in May and so will look to convert immediately to a permission based on retirement (maybe not on my birthday mind). Whist here can I check my understanding that as it’s an extension I am applying for immigration will not want to see evidence that the THB800,000 came from overseas☺️?

Extensions do not require proof funds came from abroad. Only the non O retirement obtained in Thailand has that requirement. 1

It was 1 million for 20 years. It's priceless for the peace of mind. I don't have to worry about the overdue increase from the 65k/800k retirement method, or the turning up at immigration to find the rules have changed and I don't have the right papers or hadn't buried them in peat and recycled them as firelighters. 1

You probably paid for 4 times 5 years. If the law changes during that time you might not get a couple extensions. 1
