The bungee cord of a tourist leaping from a 10-storey-high platform in Thailand snapped in midair, sending him plunging into a lake in Pattaya.

 

The man from Hong Kong, known only as Mike, momentarily blacked out in the water, but regained consciousness and swam out of the lake with the help of the attraction’s employees. He was then taken to hospital, Hong Kong news outlet hk01 reported.

 

The incident reportedly happened in February in the Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park located in the popular Thai tourist destination of Pattaya.

 

Mike told hk01: “The pain was so intense that I felt dizzy. As my arms were stretched out, my armpit area was the worst hit.”

Ouch !!... very lucky fella... 

 

I’ve bungee jumped , sky dived, zip-lined through forests etc...  BUT, I will never do any of these activities in Thailand...  (call this a Thai bash if you want - it is exactly that). In Thailand there is no accountability for safety failures whatsoever, ergo there is no real incentive to ensure equipment maintenance is carried out and equipment and practices are safe.

Recently (while I was traveling overseas) my Wife & Son went away for a couple of days with a handful of families (son’s class mates)... a fun trip was planned. 

 

The group also planned to do the ’tree-top zip-line adventure’....  I put a stop to that, not in Thailand. 

Wife explained to the others, they actually understood and agreed...

So he got an adventure. Just what he paid for.

There is a lesson to learn here.  This is a third-world where you get third-world safety.

This has been reported in the Singapore press and no doubt in HK's too. Not good publicity.

Could've been worse Could've fallen of a Balcony.

Nor I, and like you?  I'd discuss the endemic safety issues associated with these 'thrill parks' with anyone in my party or family who were interested.  If you get hurt because of a Thai business's negligence?  You are not going to be compensated.  You'll probably be writing home for someone to start a Go-Fund-Me page for you as even your insurance company will probably deny your claim as well.  A fruit basket and flowers aren't covering your million THB hospital bill or multi-million THB air-evac.
As for the guy who was bungee jumping.  He should thank God there was water under him.

I guess up the age of 30, I might have consider doing something like this......in the UK.........but never, ever in Thailand.

Looks like the cord had already reached it's limit, so he didn't hit the water that fast.

I read that the bungee company offered to refund his ticket....  He was later hospitalised in Hong Kong after swallowing some of the dirty lake water, the bill came to a few thousand dollars to clean him out and luckily his travel insurance paid that bill.

I guess it makes more sense to engage in such activities when much older as there is ‘less life to waste’ if things go sideways !!!! 

 

I used to see people doing bungee jumps in car-parks in the UK... No thanks, no interest. 

But, 134m high over a Canyon near Queenstown NZ... Sure, point me in the right direction !!

I’d have done it numerous times, but for the cost - but never in Thailand.

I wouldn't do it anywhere, no matter at what age. Just cazy IMO.

Yes, did the sky diving & parasailing in the states.   Bungee, OK over water here, as vid show, unless 'unhooked' at the top, you're not hitting the water hard.

 

Shark diving (no cage) was quality outfit in the Bahamas, well researched & reputation.

 

My driving as a youngin' was more dangerous in reality, and amazing I didn't kill myself, and thankfully never hurt anyone.

 

Zip Lining never interest me, but more than a few horror stories about Thai operations.  That takes, needs way too much maintenance.

 

If I was a bit younger, or bounced a bit better, might give paragliding or lite aircraft a try.  But prefer to finish my years, wheelchair free.

Let me guess, most of them were not Thais. 

This guy got his money's worth. He'll have something to talk about for the rest of his life.

You really have got to have your mentality tested if you do these dangerous sports in Thailand.

If the cord hadn't broken his fall he'd be dead.

I will continue the safe activities in Thailand. drinking, bar crawling, chatting up pretty girls much safer than jumping off platforms, and zipping down cable wire.
