President Vladimir Putin has said Russia would be "forced to react" if the UK sent shells made with depleted uranium to Ukraine.

He accused the West of deploying weapons with a "nuclear component".

The UK confirmed it would provide Kyiv the armour-piercing rounds alongside Challenger 2 tanks - but insisted they have a low risk of radiation.

Russia is “deliberately trying to disinform,” said the UK Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, after Russian President Vladimir Putin warned London against providing Ukraine with ammunition that contains depleted uranium.

On Monday, the UK confirmed that it will send ammunition containing depleted uranium to Ukraine, a development which Putin referenced at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Today it became known that Great Britain, through the mouth of the deputy head of the Ministry of Defense of this country, announced not only the supply of tanks to Ukraine, but also shells with combined uranium,” Putin said.

Gotta get rid of that nuclear waste somehow I guess.

Does anyone think that Russia doesn't have their own stockpile of depleted uranium ammunition that they won't use now?

What makes you believe that they aren't using it already?

It's very easy to detect. It's still radioactive (about half of natural uranium) and produces recognizable damage. So at least Ukraine would know.

Thanks for the info. They may not be making an issue of it because they plan to use those shells themselves. Or they may not be making an issue of it because the Russians haven't been using them. Now that I think about it in light of your comment, it's probably the latter since now that Russia has made an issue out of it, why wouldn't the Ukrainians expose its double standard?
