Drunken Motor Vehicle Accident Injures Six

Featured Replies

At around 10pm on Monday an allegedly drunk male driver of a pickup ploughed into the rear of another pickup and a Volvo sedan and forced them into the rear of five motorbikes all waiting at a red light on the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Central Pattaya Road.

The resulting tangled mess of metal and vehicle parts saw five men and one woman all injured, thankfully none of them too seriously, although they all required hospitalization at Pattaya Memorial.

The drunk driver, aged 34, escaped any injury but was arrested by police and charged with driving over the legal alcohol limit and causing injury.

An unfortunate accident, but the pickup must have been travelling at a fair rate of knots to have consatina'ed two cars into the inevitable flock of bikes at the lights and then dammaged 5 of them!

Would have been something to watch, but not something I would like to have been involved with.

Will probably get off with a 500 Baht fine and told not to do it again :o

I was riding my bike north along the Sukhumvit and came across this. I couldn't for the life of me work out how he'd managed to turn the truck over on its side so that it ended up transverse to the traffic, I wondered if he'd come from the opposite direction and tried to take the corner too quick and turned it over but seems not.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised, I once see a car a Thai had managed to turn over on a completely straight section of the 331 without any other vehicle being involved.

Accident at Intersection by Drunk Driver

At 10 pm on 2nd July the Pattaya police was informed that an accident occurred on Sukhumvit Road’s intersection just before the turn into

Central Pattaya road. Many vehicles were damaged and many people at the scene were injured. On arrival the police found that a drunken pickup driver; Charnchai

Chaikhumkao, attempted to speed through the red light while everyone else was parking and waiting for the green light. He crashed into a motorbike, that had a mother, father, and 4 year old girl on it. He also crashed into another pickup truck in front of him and that truck bounced to crash 8 other

motorbikes in front.

All 9 injured people were taken to the hospital by the Sawang rescuers, the police volunteers seized all the vehicles at the scene, and drunken Charnchai was taken to the police station to sober up. All the injured people will have to come back to the station to press charges on this careless drunken driver the next day.

I admit I am very unimpressed with the thais standard of driving, but don't forget they are not the only ones who can be idiots behind the wheel
