Swedes will be 'sent to their deaths' if they join NATO, Russia's ambassador to Stockholm has warned in a tirade of attacks on the Nordic nation.

 

Viktor Tatarintsev claimed in a statement on the Russian embassy's website that Sweden and neighbour Finland would both face 'retaliatory measures', including 'military ones', if they join the international military alliance.

 

Sweden has since announced that it has summoned the Russian ambassador to explain his remarks in which he said Sweden and Finland would both become 'legitimate targets' after joining NATO.

Countries that border on Russia seem to have a choice between joining NATO and being threatened with attack, or not joining NATO and being invaded.  It's not a difficult choice.

The guy has lost it, besides Putin has shown that he loves to conquer lands that in his mind once belonged to Russia and a few countries have fallen already. 

 

So if i were Finland that was once Russian in before 1917 and was invaded by Russia during WW2 id make sure i get in Nato asap. Russia with Putin cant be trusted anymore.

What is wrong with this guy! I bet he thought Ukraine would tumble in a day or two...well he got that very wrong so what does he think he is going to do with the Nordic countries. I can't understand why his chief military personnel go along with him. Is he hoping that the Chinese will join him in a real fight with the west? Well they might do but only for their own means, I'm guessing, for when Russia is exhausted perhaps it might suddenly become a Chinese annex.

It is not that easy logistically to fight a war on a single front but to open a second front without having one won the first is sort of stupid

 

Especially if that second front has a lot more allies than Russia has.

The BRICS are not constituting an alliance and may have diverging or even conflicting interests (ex. India and China). 

Moreover, because of Putin's incompetence and corruption, Russia is an economic dwarf. The BRICS make most of their trade with NATO countries and their allies (SK, Japan, OZ,)
