Alcohol effects on Gout, Arthritis & Rheumatism

What are the effects from consuming alcohol with regards to Gout, Arthritis & Rheumatism ?

 > Can it be a sole cause for such illness to start?

> Would it make such illness worse, if one already is suffering?

But, short answer is each of the conditions you mention is exacerbated by alcohol consumption. in the case of gout it may actually be the cause.

Alcohol is not the cause of arthritis, that's just getting-old-itis. Alcohol can exacerbate the joint pain.

By whom? I love my cheese & red wine, almost daily for many many years, and have never had gout.

Arthritis - you need to specify what you mean. Rheumatoid arthritis? Osteoarthritis? Psoariatic arhtritis? AFAIK known of these are directly affected by alcohol.

On many occasions, this topic was the subject of discussion, with various independent views. This was the reason I posted this question for my general knowledge.
