BANGKOK (NNT) - Today is another important day for Muslim Thais, as a moon sighting is expected after sunset and Eid al-Fitr is anticipated to be announced. Once confirmed by Islamic authorities in Thailand, this will mark the end of the Ramadan period. Muslim Thais were seen shopping for groceries since morning in anticipation of Eid.

People visited Yala train market in numbers this morning to prepare raw materials for cooking a feast for the family. Sellers had prepared a large amount of the usual food items for Eid al-Fitr. Prices of the items were mostly unchanged although a few items have seen modest price rises.

Throughout downtown Yala, the police were facilitating traffic in the vicinities of markets in anticipation of the busy shopping morning. Parts of the police force were handling security, in an effort to deter incidents by ill-intentioned groups.

Eid al-Fitr generally involves a feast marking the end of the month-long Ramadan fasting. The date is popularly called Hari Rayo in the southern border provinces of Thailand.

The Sheikhul Islam Office has announced that Muslim Thais check for a sighting of the moon yesterday (20 April) after sunset so that the declaration of Eid al-Fitr can proceed smoothly. A sighting of the moon should be reported to the Provincial Islamic Committee Office. The latter will inspect the sighting and report its observation to Sheikhul Islam, who will issue a general announcement for the end of Ramadan.

A trifle narcissistic, don’t you think?

You were so not interested that you took the time to click on the topic title and respond?

Even you must admit that appears a bit…strange.

If you read the Quran and haddiths I think you might find it strange that anyone believes in this nonsense.

Let's just discuss your beliefs....    they’re the only ones that matter after all, right ????  :whistling:

It's the beliefs of muslims which are the topic, and a religion founded by a thief, war lord, killer, slave owner, polygamist and child abuser. All of these are in Islamic scripture, especially the hadith of Sahih al Bukari

All other religions ok then ??....

I’m not sure if your ‘hate’ is levied solely at Islam or religion in general...   on one hand you could be an Islamophobe, on the other a bigot, at best someone who explains themselves terribly...

You confuse opposition with hate, although some things do need to be hated. Islamaphobic is a word invented to demonise opponents of the religion and meaning irrational fear, in many cases that fear is entirely rational, you only have to look at the number of terror attacks (thousands) carried out across the world by it's followers since 9/11. It's followers of course are not to blame, the ideology is, being a supremacist, intolerant woman oppressing and gay hating movement. Any opposition to it's ever increasing encroachment into western culture is of course labeled bigoted hate, when in fact it's entirely justified. No amount of nice liberal followers can change the essential nature of their belief system, which is bad, very bad. If you want a better explanation read the Quran and haddiths, it's all in there along with the appalling life story of the founder.

Just a technical note.

Not all Muslims in Thailand are "Muslim Thais." There are about 2 million (est. 2020) in Thailand's three southern provinces formerly known collectively as the Kingdom of Patani who are "Malay Muslims". The Kingdom of Siam (now the Kingdom of Thailand) that forceably annexed the KOP refer to them as Muslim "Thais" as part of a denial and rechacterization of their indigenious ethnicity, traditions and culture.
