The reopening of the Corrections Museum in Muang District, Nonthaburi Province, is generating excitement among historians and interested individuals.

The museum, originally located at the Bangkok Remand Prison, was built in 1890 and displayed artifacts related to punishment and antiques from various prisons across Thailand. Unfortunately, it had to be closed for almost 10 years for reasons unknown, reported Siam Rath.

Upon Mr. Ayut's appointment as Director-General of the Department of Corrections, he made it a priority to reopen the museum for public viewing. A rehearsal meeting was held on April 21st to prepare for the upcoming opening ceremony scheduled for May 19th, 2023.

During the meeting, a committee was formed to oversee the opening ceremony and manage the Historical Learning Center and Contemporary Tourism programs.

The museum features exhibits that showcase the history and evolution of correctional work, punishment, and execution from the past to the present.

These exhibits include ancient penalties, restraints, documents on methods of torture, photographs of prisons and executions, images of executioners, firearms used to execute prisoners.

The aim of the museum is to preserve Thailand's correctional wisdom and educate the public about the evolution of punishment and Thai correctional work.

To achieve this, the correctional service development institute has been tasked with organizing an open exhibition that will be displayed at the Department of Corrections on No. 222, Nonthaburi 1 Road, Muang District, Nonthaburi Province.

The exhibition promises to be an eye-opener for visitors, who will get to learn about the past and present state of correctional work in Thailand.
