A recent clash between rival teenage gangs in north Pattaya has left one person injured after the gangs used rocks, knives, and homemade grenades as weapons.

The violent incident took place at 5am on Saturday, April 22 at the Photisan Fresh Market, where a 17 year old employee of the Jay Nooch fruit shop suffered a blow to the head from a thrown rock during the brawl.

Warunee Nangngam, a 29 year old shopkeeper at the market in Pattaya, revealed that the teen and other boys who work with her had a conflict with a group of teenagers during Songkran, the Thai New Year festival. Warunee recalled that on the night before the incident, the rival gang appeared to have made peace with the Jay Nooch employees. The relieved shopkeeper thought the conflict had been resolved, but unfortunately, she was mistaken.

The next morning, as the market opened, the rival gang returned to the scene. Other vendors at the market quickly alerted the police, causing the gang members to flee as law enforcement officers arrived. However, it didn’t take long for the group to regroup and return to the market, this time blocking all the exits and directly confronting the employees of Jay Nooch fruit shop.

I have zero sympathy for these gangs if they want to kill each other who cares as long as no bystander is injured or killed .

Yeah, just teenage boys having a bit of fun. We were all young once.

Round them all up and give them two years in the army...

a reasonable amount of time to reflect in their actions.

The use of deadly weapons, in this case knives and grenades, warrants somewhat more than 2 years in the army - indeed very significantly more! Set the rules, outline the punishment and enforce it!

But bystanders do get injured, property gets damaged, and worst of all some of those gangs go on to harass and attack complete strangers. There's been a string of incidents of teen gangs attacking strangers in Pattaya lately.

If they carry guns and other deadly weapons they need to be rounded up and locked up. Age is not an excuse for being a violent thug. This isn't "teens wil be teens" - more like teens will be future murderers.

Guns and deadly weapons warrant a death sentence.  Spell it out, let all the yobs know in advance, and then they have no excuses.

Illegal gun ownership is already punishable by up to 10 years in jail - but it's rarely enforced. They could start by simply enforcing current law.

At this market I expect there were several meat vendors with suitable cleavers to have seen off these brats... minus a limb or two. Where did the Thai smile go?
