Upcoming public holidays and impact on immigration office hours

 

Thailand is gearing up for three upcoming public holidays that will temporarily shut down government offices, including immigration departments. The first of these holidays, Coronation Day, falls on Thursday, May 4, and will be followed by a “bridge” continuation day on Friday, May 5. The Thai government announced these additional holidays last year as a means to boost domestic tourism as the country started recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 infections on the rise with 1,811 cases and 10 deaths last week

COVID-19 infections in Thailand between 23rd and 29th of April increased to 1,811, or an average of 258 cases a day, and ten deaths, according to the Department of Disease Control.

‘Policeman’ Faces Arrest Over Cyanide Killings

Government plans to develop Thailand’s coastal zones

Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, recently announced that his ministry is working on developing the coastal areas of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Islands. These areas are a major contributor to Thailand’s tourism industry, generating 1.2 trillion baht billion in revenue in 2022.

Potassium Cyanide In 3 Tea Bags Found In Suspect’s Car: Academic

AN ACADEMIC at Kasetsart University’s Chemistry Department said this morning (May 3) forensic examination had found potassium cyanide, a compound with the formula KCN, in three sachets that look like tea bags found in a sedan driven by Ms. Sararat Rangsiwutthaporn, or Am, a suspect in the cyanide killing of 14 victims, with one having survived, Sanook.com and TV Channel 7 said.

Thailand’s new air quality standard to take effect on June 1st

Thailand has decided to implement a new PM2.5 standard level, reduced from 50 microns (microgram/cubic metre) to 37.5 microns, and a new air quality index (AQI) standard, reduced from 91 to 75.1, from June 1st, to bring them in line with the World Health Organisation’s standards, according to Jatuporn Buruspat, permanent secretary of natural resources and environment.
