Move Forward Announces Six-Party Coalition Govt

BANGKOK (NNT) - Pita Limjaroenrat, leader and prime ministerial candidate of the Move Forward Party (MFP), has announced the formation of a coalition government comprising six parties with a total of 309 Members of Parliament (MPs).

 

In Sunday’s (14 May) election, the conservative vote and long-standing patronage politics that have governed the country for a decade were swept away by what is being called the "Orange Wave."

 

MFP, which has amassed significant popularity in Thailand, emerged as the biggest party with 151 MPs—112 from constituencies and 39 from the party list.

 

Pita, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the country as prime minister, affirmed his willingness to respect the electoral consensus and vowed to be a leader for all Thai citizens.

 

The coalition government is expected to include MFP, the Pheu Thai Party, the Prachachat Party, the Thai Sang Thai Party, the Thai Liberal Party, and the Fair Party - providing Pita with a strong majority of 309 MPs.

 

Additionally, Pita emphasized the party’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people and assured that the government would be promptly established. He called on Thai citizens to place their trust in MFP.

Thaksin likely onside so all should go smoothly:

Pita was born on 5 September 1980,[1][2] the eldest son of Pongsak Limjaroenrat, a former adviser to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Linda Limjaroenrat. He is the nephew of Padung Limjaroenrat, a former secretary to the Interior Minister and a close aide of then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He still needs 66 members and the military backed senate have said they won’t help him form a government.

Seems he might have to ask BJT to join the coalition

Sounds more like a dictatorship with a pseudo democratic top coat to make it look good.

Next comes the horse trading with every side wanting a profitable ministry so they can get back what they spent on the election. This should lead to the MF members becoming even more disgusted with the swamp they have waded into.

It seems the senate are intent on spoiling the party.

I think Pheu Thai will be trying hard to persuade MFP to bring Anutin's Bumjaithai into the coalition. Doing this will negate the need for Senate approval. It is the better of 2 unattractive options. In a year the unelected, hand-picked Senate will be no more anyway.

This is politics: give and take, park some principles for now. It is all about gradual evolution and not instant revolution.

More people voted for parties other than MFP than voted for MFP. They do not have a mandate from the whole of the electorate and not even a majority of the electorate for them alone.

I wish MFP well and hope they will prevail over time.

Unfortunately they need 376 seats to have over half the vote so there is no majority not even a narrow one.

Did anybody actually expect any kind of fair or meaningful election. Thailand is a monarchy and a 2 tiered society that has never had and never will have any kind of democracy, the pantomime of this so called election was all just another rort.
Not to worry, in typical Thai fashion a coup will sort it out in no time and all can move on. Sabai Sabai.
