Air Conditioners - Bought the Wrong Model
I don't know if the installation is deficient. They are returning tomorrow to finish the install, basically to bolt the compressor to a steel tray. They didn't have sharp enough drill bit to drill into the steel tray. I did watch them intently during the 9 hour install. They did braze the pipes, only used flare joints at the evaporator and at the compressor, insured the bends weren't flattening, insulated each pipe, pipes were encased in a plastic casing. They didn't flow nitrogen through lines during brazing, which is normal professional practice in USA, Canada. On a new unit, the gas is compressed in the compressor unit. No gas is added unless it is large distance between the compressor and evaporator. Different unit have different specs but generally I estimate distances than 10 meters may require more gas. For my install the pipes were 6.1 meters in length. -

Tax Filing Experience: Jomtien [March-2025]
I agree and how some are confused is beyond my understanding. I think it is the DTA that trips them up but not sure. Will they go after future earning in private pensions? Maybe... -

Air Conditioners - Bought the Wrong Model
The LG inverter that was purchased and installed in one of the bedrooms while I was away is the one that has had most issues. A gecko fried a control board but when it comes to regular cleaning and maintenance, it is the one that 'stops cooling' first and I think it is a bit noisier than the others. Admittedly, it is on the 'hot' side of the house. The 8-year-old non-inverter Hitachi was relocated to a third bedroom and seems to be still working well. However, the Midea inverter I installed in my shed and the one replacing the Hitachi in the master bedroom are easily the quietest and most efficient. These are all on the 'cool' side of the house and yard. I plan on getting four more Midea inverters for the 4-bedroom annex this month. The condenser units will be mounted in the shade so I don't expect issues. -

Thailand Launches Major Dengue Vaccine Trial in Children
The article didn't mention the brand - but clearly the study refers to the QDenga Vaccine marketed by a Japanese pharma. It's already approved by the Thai FDA as mentioned, and is also approved the European Medicines Agency - EMA (the EU's FDA) and other countries. It's easily available at private hospitals here, so I don't think there's anything to worry about for the kids. It's approved for anyone 4 years of age and above by the EMA - no upper age limit for Europe. In Thailand they stick to 4 - 60 years of age. (The only reason 60 is the upper age limit is due to an abundance of caution recommended by the manufacturer as QDenga's trials didn't involve anyone older than that). It's two shots/jabs spaced over 3 months. It isn't cheap though, as mentioned. So I'm not really sure what this Thai 'vaccine trial' is all about. How would reproducing the Qdenga Japanese trials on kids 7 - 10 make it any cheaper for Thailand? It seems an odd thing to do (unless they don't trust the original trials by the manufacturer). Regarding older people, the Japanese trials focused only on mere hundreds, compared to many thousands of younger kids, who are more vulnerable to dengue (by being outdoors more than older working-age people). -
