A member of the Thai Senate says most of the 250 senators still haven’t made up their minds when it comes to voting for the new prime minister. Senator Wanchai Sornsiri says most senators are unsure about voting for Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat, for a number of reasons.

 

Senators have the option of voting for Pita, not voting for Pita, or abstaining, and Wanchai says many senators may only make their decision on voting day. According to a Bangkok Post report, Wanchai says he will vote for the candidate nominated by a coalition that secures over 250 House seats.

 

The Move Forward Party is part of an 8-party coalition that has 313 House seats and needs at least 376 votes to have their lead elected as Thailand’s new PM. Voting for the PM will be done by a 750-seat joint sitting including both the 500 elected MPs, along with the 250-member senate.

If one person say it is ok they will vote for him, if the same one says no, they will not vote for him. Easy, nothing to do with anything else.. Hidden powers and influence

How many Senators are non-elected military and only worried about themselves and not the betterment of the country

What other option is there but to vote for Pita?

 

If another election is required, pro democracy parties will easily win the majority of lower house seats and round and round we go until the people tire of the unelected Senators and hand the MF coalition 376 lower house seats.

 

Whether it be now or in the months ahead, Pita will be PM.

All of which probably means they have decided but don't want to reveal (others be aware) how they will vote.

Not dinosaurs  but Frankenstein. Voting has always been the based on votes in the Parliament. No senates involvement. The junta created this Frankenstein in 2019 to kneecap the people to decide on their leaders. Similarly the EC was another Frankenstein created by post coup junta in 2007. The Ministry of Interior managed election matters prior. 
 

I hope all lawmakers in the House of Representatives will rise to the occasion and unanimously correct this wrong and out-vote the senates. Some of the parties like Dem and BJT are under pressure to show they are on the side of the majority voices. Prawit has been quite conciliatory in his statement to move the country forward and pointed out that past attempts by the elites & military to dominate politics have failed. 
 

They is really no hope for a junta coalition as they simply don’t have the numbers. Unlikely that the junta parties will nominate any of their leaders as PM. I doubt Prayut and Prawit wish to be in the nomination list. The only fear is that the senators abstained from voting which will put the country in a limbo without a government. I sincerely hope all the elected representatives will do the right thing and not leave this to chance in the senate and put the country into jeopardy

And this is why MF needs to stop making statements now about all they are going to do until the final vote is done. Don’t get cocky too quickly, we see how that has turned out. 

Here's a novel idea for those unelected dinosaurs. Just follow the lead of the voters, their message is loud and clear.

Pretty sure the senate believes its job is to protect the country - not the people - from ruin. They see the country as a series of institutions that go back centuries. Democracy is not one of those institutions.

They will all be gone anyway in 12 months. The vote for PM will be their last act of any real consequence.

I see that as the biggest risk. Abstain so you need not vote. Easier choice then making yourself known which side you take since it's an open ballot voting. If the numbers of senators abstaining are large, it will be difficult for to achieve the 376 votes and will leave the country without a Prime Minister. That will be disaster for the country.

The senate can simply pick someone else.

The 112 debacle will cripple any hope of a valid coalition. Fear of phantoms is the bane of Thai politics. If the Royal Defamation law remains, nothing will ever change.

It is a certainty - any minority junta government will immediately face and lose a no confidence motion and be forced to call an election.
