Bangkok taxi driver fined Bt2,000, license suspended for overcharging

The Land Transport Department fined a taxi driver Bt2,000 and suspended his driving license for 90 days on Tuesday for overcharging a Taiwanese passenger.

 

Kittipong, the driver, whose surname was not revealed, was summoned to meet the department’s transport inspection officials.

 

The driver confessed to the offence. He picked up a Taiwanese passenger from Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province for a journey to Bangpho MRT Station.

 

The distance is 13 kilometres and the fare should have been about Bt160, but Kittipong refused to use the meter and demanded Bt2,000.

Should have been 20,000 Baht fine and full name and shame with picture too. Maybe then, the rogue Taxi drivers will obey the rules. In effect, the 2,000 Baht fine was paid for by the customer that got ripped off. No mention of compensation to the customer.

I would be happier to read that a 1,000 drivers were finned for over charging, not only one.

2000 baht fine for  charging 2000 baht for 160 baht fare....  nice work if you can get it. 

 

I assume this is not the same guy who was charing 5000 baht for a ride from Impact MTT. 

 

Seems they are all at it, as if we ever believed any different !!!.. but the over-charging at MTT took it to new heights. 

 

Odds are he’s already ignored the driving ban already and is over-charging more customers to make up for the fine payment...
