Using a different bank's cash deposit machine. Possible?

Featured Replies

I don't often have to deposit cash but on the occasions that I do the nearest SCB CDM is a brisk (ruddy hot) walk away.

Meanwhile, there's a Bangkok Bank machine in the office lobby.

Anyone tried using a "foreign" CDM??

Simply enter the bank's name and account number.

Does this mean I can't simply poke my SCB ATM card in to deposit?

Good question

But I do not know....I would think since you can draw cash using a SCB "chipped" card you could deposit

But give it a shot I do not think it will eat the cash if not allowed ????

I am pretty sure you can not do that.

Yeah, I just went down to test it.

Inserting the SCB card made it go into ATM mode with no option to deposit ????

Pressing the Deposit button without inserting a card takes you (after a warning about depositing to unknown accounts) to a "Select Bank" screen then "Enter Account Number". Nice and error prone for us oldies, although I do recall from past use that it does confirm the name of the account you're sending to.

Unless it's hammering down, I think I'll continue to walk round to the SCB machine ????

Makes sense.

What surprises me is, that this way you can send cash anonymously.

I thought they had eradicated this option?

I clicked on the link to Bangkok Bank shown in mania's post above and scrolled down to

Cash Deposit Machines   -   Deposit cash to any bank account

"A quick and easy way to deposit cash into your own Bangkok Bank account, or an account with another bank. Simply enter the bank’s name and account number."

So, according to their website it's possible.

Whether it can actually be done is another matter!

Yes but as Crossy has shown it does not work with "Other" banks accounts/cards to initiate the deposit

What the BKB site is saying is.... it is possible  to deposit cash to any bank but they must mean when using their BKB card/account to send or deposit money to other accounts/banks

Agreed, mania.

On further research: you have to have a Bangkok Bank Card to use this 'facility'.
