Pita admits transferring 42,000 iTV shares to other family heirs

Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat said Tuesday that he has allocated 42,000 shares in the iTV company, inherited from his late father, to the other heirs, to pre-empt any attempt to revive the media company as political ammunition.

The embattled prime ministerial candidate is accused of holding a stake in a media company, in violation of the election law which forbids electoral candidates from owning a media firm or holding shares in such company, the penalty for which is disqualification.

In his Facebook post today (Tuesday), Pita claims that the shares he inherited do not have any economic value, after iTV was delisted from the Thai stock market by the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2014.

Accusing a politician of owning shares in a media company is a convenient way to get rid of any political enemy with little regard to the intention of the law. The law is not an issue as politicians controlling media outlets can manipulate opinion and slander rivals BUT the intent of the law has now been perverted beyond all reasons recently.

In the case of Thanatorn, hos shares in V-Luck Media was in the process of closing pending some debt collection. V-Luck Media published lifestyle magazine and inflight magazine for Nok Airline but the EC still find sufficient faults to disqualify him. There was another case before Thanathorn and also involved MFP predecessor party FFP in which K Henlod was disqualified. His shares were in the company involved in engineering but the EC claimed that the business objectives was to operate radio and TV. That was a 360 pervertion of the law. Now this case with Pita shares in iTV which the government had terminated its contract in 2007 suddenly became a problem. As I said the law has been perverted by the powers to go after their enemies.

Yeah. Pita, and his MV cohorts, should've realized - or have been wise enough - that the ruling class of sore losers would pull out every stop to challenge and intervene. Don't give them fodder to claim legitimacy as they are today......be it real wrongdoing or something they're attempting to dream up.

Nonetheless. Politicians and the politician classes are all subject to scrutiny. By their very nature, they're criminally foul and immoral to lesser degrees. Their positions and standing have little to do with representing/serving the commons and their well being.

You'll be pardoning my deeper cynicism towards all.

That's the way it is.

Sort of after the fact.

Exactly.  Which is why I cant understand why he, and his army of advisors/lawyers didnt have the foresight to deal with this issue.

Bucko? Very respectful for the most popular politician in Thailand now, the choice of the people.

There you go. He didn't hold shares. That is very easy to verify and move on. I don't even see how this issue can be lodged post election (victory). Oh yes, it's Thailand

I understood that he told the appropriate authorities before the Move Forward was registered as a party.

This should have been dealt with long before the election. It's a shame because the senate now have the excuse they need to block Pita's/MFP's right to government.

Spelling error.

Amazing Thailand and amazing jumping to conclusions and speculation. Best to keep an on the news but remember so much of this news is directly controlled by military or in their pockets.

Hell, yeah.....????! Right on brother. (Or sister!)

Those shares were just resting in his account, until he found time to move them along.

The government tried to split hairs, so Pita chose to split heirs.

Woot!

I'm here every sometimes.

42,000 shares is worth almost nothing baht. What about them investigating Anutin's asset worth 5.4 billion baht(170 million usd) , 120 million baht increase from 2022 ?

looks like Pita did exactly the right thing. I think anywhere in the world so long as it's only family members that benefit from illicit schemes and not the politician him/herself it's all fine. Powerfull politicians enriching family members is in fact the international GOLD STANDARD of honesty and fairness and in no way suggest corruption.

Pita claims that, in the 2022 balance sheet of iTV, which was submitted to the Department of Business Development for consideration, there was a suspicious change in the core business of iTV, from finance to TV and media advertising, despite the fact that iTV has ceased to be a media firm.

Due to these unusual occurrences, he said he decided to consult other heirs and decided to divide the shares among them, adding that the share transfer was not done with the intention to escape accountability.

Might be a tricky situation now?

I understand that he was quite open about it and was told it was of no consequence.

Maybe it was thought that his party would flop. Different story now.

Why didn't he just claim they were not his shares but a friend let him borrow them and then died.

Seems to work here.

I think he needs a better legal team. The issue should have been well-foreseen and dealt with before the election.

Easy enough as the shares were practically worthless.
