Thai coconut milk industry battles PETA’s monkey abuse claims

Thai coconut milk producers are calling on the government to swiftly hire a lobbyist to counteract allegations made by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) regarding the treatment of monkeys by local farmers. PETA recently reiterated its claims on Twitter, stating that monkeys are kidnapped as babies and later forced to pick coconuts in the Thai coconut industry.

 

An insider from the Thai food industry expressed concern over the damage to the reputation of Thai coconut milk since PETA’s campaign began in July 2020. The campaign was repeated in November and has recently resurfaced on social media. As a result, Thai coconut milk has been removed from the shelves of numerous department stores and supermarkets in major countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.

 

The source revealed that the Thai coconut milk industry has suffered significant losses, with the country losing some of its 80% global market shares. Despite efforts by the government, ambassadors, and manufacturers to deny the use of monkeys in coconut harvesting, sales of Thai products continue to struggle, reports Bangkok Post.

I recommend to visit a milk or meat production anywhere in Europe or USA (but of course also in Thailand)....Or a slaughterhouse and what all goes wrong there. It is cruel beyond what normal people can imagine.

Monkeys is the smallest problem I can imagine....

That's it - a denial?

Nothing to show how coconuts are actually being harvested, mechanically and/or migrant workers. No invites to various concerned foreign embassies to observe harvesting coconuts without monkeys?

So the West simply denies the denial.

Its such a crying shame that in the rest of the world unlike in Thailand, the good people cannot just silence any critics through manipulation of the law, nepotism and corruption 'do you know who I am' just doesn't cut it and it must be traumatic for your pampered entitled hi so...

"In 2014, PETA euthanized over 80% of the shelter's animals and justified its euthanasia policies as "mercy killings".

 

In 2008, industry lobby group Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) petitioned the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, requesting they reclassify PETA as a "slaughterhouse." CCF said in a news release that "[a]n official report filed by PETA itself shows that the animal rights group put to death nearly every dog, cat, and other pet it took in for adoption in 2006," with a kill rate of 97.4 percent.

 

In 2012, VDACS said that it had in the past considered changing PETA's status from "shelter" to "euthanasia clinic," citing PETA's willingness to take in "anything that comes through the door, and other shelters won't do that."

 

PETA acknowledged that it euthanized 95% of the animals at its shelter in 2011.

They are a dangerous, violent fringe mob, even though their heart's in the right place, they take it too far.

 

I understand that we love our pets, I still grieve over a magnificent tomcat I lost in 2009. 

 

But there's something badly wrong when humans put animals ahead of other humans, all things being equal.
