My expereince is antibiotics do not work well at all for tooth infections.

Have you had a root canal?  Is it sensitive to pressure, cold or hot?  If not, a Dentist can determine with xray and examine f you need one.

Further, you may need it pulled with an implant being the replacement.

Maybe ask the dentist?

Or perhaps a second opinion?

Pursuing a competent oral surgeon might aid in such resolution.

Why ask a dentist or professional when you can get all the great advice from all the knowledgeable members!????????????????????????????

Well if he had already recived proper treatment he would not need a 2nd opinion from our medical experts here....

You will have to clarify what you mean by a "root canal infection" since a root canal is a dental procedure to treat infection....typicallg requiring miltiple sessions.

Has root canal bwen completed yet?

Wrong Sheryl, it depends on the tooth but most root canal’s in the west are done completely in ONE appointment .

I went to a root canal specialist in Singapore and he said it was multiple procedures that would end up with a crown. Cost approx 10,000 SGD (can't remember the exact figure but it made my eyes water). I just got the tooth pulled instead and then got a new plastiic bridge thingie that cost 3000 baht. Simples.

10,000 SGD
is equal to
260,894.09 THB

Are you sure about this price?

In Thailand a Root Canal I think is aroung 8-9-10 thousand baht.....I have had a few of them here...

To be honest no but he was talking about a LOT of money (certainly more than a thousand SGD (thinking back it could have 1500-2000) so approx 35-50 thousand baht - which definitely made me think again.  I found Singapore medical prices quite reasonable - up until then. But he was talking about "Full Monty" draining the thing and then rebuilding (got technical at this point), definitely more than one procedure. I've got a plasitc tooth to replace it now. Oh and there were two teeth involved so that's just doubled it ???? The other one hasn't given me grief - yet - but when it does - it's history.

yes they try in one appointment...but also a lot of horror stories.....including grinding thru a crown because the root canal below was not OK

You could try Prednisolone, not all pharmacy sell it, but you can find it. Worked for me on something similar. I also put raw garlic on the gum, that reduced the swelling

yes they can become infected and  wobbly if the gums are not strong enough for implants

Sometimes, dental implants can become infected, causing inflammation in the soft tissues and bone loss around the implant, often by a condition called Peri-Implantitis. Peri-implantitis is an inflammation similar to gum disease and it affects the gum tissues and supporting bone surrounding a dental implant.

I have had six implants done here with no problems over the 10 or so years.

One required sinus lift and bone graft for two adjacent molars. Excellent results.

Under no circumstances should prednidolone or other steroids be taken in the presence of infection.

Root canal removes the infected nerve.
