Jingthing
How can I ask for a stir fried squid with a red chili sauce at a street restaurant? Is there a standard name for this dish? All I can think of is to call it pla meuk prik, but I really want that red sauce with it, not just fresh chilies.

sabaijai
In addition to the two Bambina mentioned, a third way to order spicy stir-fried squid is plaa meuk phat phet/ปลาหมึกผัดเผ็ด (literally 'squid stir-fried spicy'). There are a lot of different ways to make it so depending on the place, it may come out as a pile of chillies or a red sauce with chillies in it. Some cooks use some curry paste, some do not. One ingredient that's consistent is basil. Maybe not what you're thinking of -- but very tasty. Incidentally plaa meuk phat (naam) phrik phao /ปลาหมึกผัดพริกเผา is more Chinese than Thai, in cooking techniques/ingredients/origins.
