webfact
In what appears to be a case of a hit and run, a cyclist‘s body was found abandoned alongside a road in Kampaeng Phet province, Thailand. The victim’s body found 5km away from his shattered bicycle, bore the worrying signs of a collision and hastily discarded. Local residents heard the loud crash while the culprit’s identity remains unknown. Upon examination of the site of the fatal incident, the body of Sao Phuangnil, commonly known as Kai, 47 years old, was found. He was found dressed in his cycling gear; however, no traces of a struggle or of a braking vehicle were found. There was only a coin lying on the road, blood on the victim’s face, and injuries on his forehead and shoulder. An eyewitness shared that before the incident, they heard a sound like a knife falling on the road and rushed to the site with their mother who was there at the time. They found the victim lying on the roadside with a coin beside him and promptly reported the incident to the police thereafter. Popular Post n8sail
RIP fellow cyclist. Good Buddha... dragged him for FIVE freakin' kilometers. Hope they catch whoever did this and hell raineth down on them. Whoever this guy was, he was not poor. Just the fork alone, a Rock Shox RS-1 29er fork for cross country mountain bike racing, was around 60,000 baht when new. Head tube of bicycle frame ripped right off, clearly was a carbon fiber frame as well. Helmet was over 6000 baht. Very unfortunately a helmet was not going to help in this case. Having ridden through Kampaeng Phet several years ago, it's a very nice place to ride, but as with everywhere on the Buddhaforsaken roads of this country, you must ride with eyes in the back of your head wide open. 2

Peterphuket
As a 76-year-old, one of the reasons I stopped cycling in Thailand, not to mention the stray dogs.
dingdongrb
From the article: "On the hit and run day, they went their separate ways home around 8pm." I wonder if he was clearly visible with lights and reflective clothing? Too many times I see bicyclists riding in the dark without lights, Just like many scooters. Regardless, the person who hit him is a coward for not stopping and coming forward. RIP.
gomangosteen
29 June 2013 Thaiger A pickup driver has been detained following a harrowing incident where he fatally struck a cyclist and then discarded the body roadside. The suspect claimed the accident was unintentional and cited poor road lighting as a contributing factor. The horrific incident occurred when 47 year old amateur cyclist Samnao (surname withheld) was struck by a vehicle while he was returning from his regular workout. The impact was so strong that it tore his bicycle into two pieces and caused him to be lodged in the front of the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Jirapong (surname withheld), then transported the deceased victim nearly 5 kilometres before discarding the body along the Kamphaeng Phet – Tha Ma Khue road. During questioning, he said that he was returning home in low visibility when his vehicle collided head-on with the bicycle. The cyclist was flung onto the bonnet of his car, and in a panic, he drove off. Nearing his home, he gently removed the body from his vehicle and left it by the roadside before fleeing the scene. He later parked his vehicle in a field before making a phone call to his village leader to confess the hit-and-run incident. He planned to turn himself in the following morning.
