Huge spiders in the bathroom, where are they coming from and how to not have them anymore?

Featured Replies

In the past 2 weeks we killed 2 huge spiders in the bathroom. And I mean huge. Bigger than the palm of the hand. And you can literally see their eyes and fangs and are absolutely terrifying. ???? ???? ???? They can't get in through ceiling. Window hash a mesh. And only way in is through bedroom which also has a mesh on doors. And would be even more terrifying if this was their point of entry. ???? Can they get in through drain or something? I don't think they could have a nest in the bathroom itself (it's pretty clean and neat bathroom, probably not)? ???? Does anybody has any more info on these bastards?

You must have small hands , where I come from it's bad luck to kill spiders ,which

I never do , probably Harvester spiders ,just leave them alone ,they will catch and

eat mosquitos and other bugs around the house,

Probably Huntsman spiders, and yes they are very common in Thailand

Probably a huntsman. We've a few of them recently too. I have no idea how you would keep them out. They can make themselves almost completely flat and get under or around a closed door. They seem to like the bathroom, the humidity maybe, or the bugs.

Spraying stuff like mint or citrus around doors and windows is supposed to deter them from coming in, but I can't say I've noticed a difference. If you find something that works, please let us know!

I assume you know they can have hundreds of babies, which establish new families and they never leave when they found a warm home.

If it was me I would sell the house at any price and move, or sleep with lights on and eyes open for the rest of your life.

Please post pictures of the house, and price you will accept ????

Pfft, lightweight.

eliminate their food source in the room

Go to the pest control section at local hardware store and buy a couple cans of Raid or something similar. Spray it around all door thresholds and windows. Reapply weekly. Also, around all the baseboards. I do this each time I move to a new place and never have an issue with bugs.

is there a man in the house ? or possibly your wife could take care of it.

And then your bedroom is on a hal way, which comes from stairs or living room?

So put some rubber or brush dorpels under neath to seal space.

Otherwise try to convince sandman not to bring his pets with him.:cheesy:

I have 2 of them in my bathroom. Put the signs up above their nets... Senior Web Developer, and Junior Web Developer. Complete with their photos. They're not moving so they must appreciate the office signs.

Would you care to do a cost comparison?

I just catch the Huntsman and put him outside. I don't know anyone that has been bite by one. This is a new spider I have seen around here for the first time this year, not in the house. Bigger than the Huntsman, also not aggressive.

Huntsman spiders are not dangerous to you , be happy that they will clear out the odd roach and fly for you.

Nephila spp.   - Orb spinner - harmless.   Fun fact - this is a female, the male is only about 1/10th the size of this girl!

Get a cat it'll sort em.

When I first encountered these huntsman spiders in Taiwan, which are extremely fleet of toe (spiders don't have feet, but have toe pads), I became deathly afraid to enter the bathrooms in the house, because the bathrooms was where they usually hung out.

After a few years, one becomes accustomed to having them around.

These days, I see them as a positive addition to my house.

I even think that I might be lost without them.

It truly is amazing just how fast these spiders can zoom around when you try to chase them.

My advice is to view these spiders from a different perspective.

Try to put yourself in the shoes of arachnologist.

As yourself, "What would an arachnologist do?"

If you follow my advice, you will be able to save money by not needing to buy many cans of Raid while living in Asia.

Orb Weaver spider. They are pretty big. I unwittingly walked though one's web a while ago, and found the owner perched on my shoulder. My laundry bill took a spike that month.

I always viewed them as free pets.

We had a big one that stayed months, then if made the mistake of running up my leg under my towel and I swatted it without thinking. I miss that guy!

Give it a name,I used Boris for mine (the Who) . Sad  when he disappeared after a few weeks. The only thing he'll bite are the nasty bugs. He's an ally!

You worry too much!....David Bowie had Spiders from Mars!

It could be a tarantula.  There are a few varieties in Thailand.

A photo would be helpful.
