Bhumjaithai Party MP found holding iTV shares, investigation called

Thai news agencies and locals were quick to highlight the fact that Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of the Move Forward Party (MFP), owned shares in the media company iTV. However, it appears that Pita is not the only politician with such holdings. Bhumjaithai Party MP Jakkrit Thongsi also possesses 40,000 shares in a media company.

 

The Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) publicly disclosed the assets and liabilities of politicians in anticipation of 100 MPs stepping down to make way for newly elected representatives. Of particular interest to the Thai media were the iTV shares held by Jakkrit, a member of the Bhumjaithai Party.

 

Jakkrit currently serves as the representative for the 7th district of Burriram province. However, during the 2023 General Election, he won as an MP for the 10th district of the same province.

According to the NACC’s report, Jakkrit and his wife, Suppajira Thongsi, declared total assets worth 84 million baht, with no outstanding debts. Jakkrit revealed that his annual income amounts to approximately 5.8 million baht, while his wife earns 1.14 million baht per year.

Among his assets, Jakkrit holds shares in two companies. He possesses 41.58 million units in Property Perfect, valued at 16.6 million baht, and 40,000 units in iTV, which are currently assessed as having no value.

Probably should just publish a complete list of all ITV share owners of record.

 

Any privacy concerns are over-shadowed by the political and legal ramifications.

 

 

In fact any defunct "media company" from the past 200 years, which issued shares that are outstanding needs to be investigated. Who owns these shares now?

No, because Jakkrit's iTV share holdings are, like your girlfriend, different.

Jakkrit clarified that the iTV shares remained in his NACC account because they could neither be transferred nor sold on the stock market due to the company’s status. Even though he possessed over 40,000 units, their worth amounted to zero baht. What he had done was create an official document detailing the transfer of shares to his cousin. Jakkrit said…

 

Almost the same case as with Pita. If a company is suspended from the stock exchange, you can no longer get the name off from the list of shareholders, even if you give away the shares to a third party for free. iTv has been shut down for many years and no longer broadcasts. That itv may have exerted any political influence on the population, nor that there were any advantages in the political election campaign - is definitely out of question. Here a mosquito is artificially inflated into a Murdoch or Berlusconi.

 

The original meaning of this sensible law (the avoidance of a politician having very great individual media power) is deliberately twisted and misinterpreted here.

So TV Channel 5 is owned and operated by the Royal Thai Army.

 

TV Channel 7 is currently owned by the Royal Thai Army through Bangkok Broadcasting & Television.

 

 

Perhaps anyone affiliated with the RTA should be excluded from holding or running for any office? You know, to avoid a conflict of interest.

 

 

I'd submit that these TV stations give RTA-affiliated politicians immense power. Certainly more than some in-flight magazine (Thanatorn) or iTV shares.

The value of the media shares is irrelevant. The number of shares is irrelevant. MPs are not allowed to own shares full stop.

As for getting rid of them, I suspect going to iTV offices or InTouch offices and saying take them back and get me off the list of shareholders has not been thought of or we would have heard about it.

Bhumjaithai has a big mouth but as we now see again that they are not clean too. There is already some problems about voting ballots and now they have the same shares too.. Why not bring it in court today??

Re-run the election.

 

Now that the public has seen PTP admitting that they will cosy up to the last government and work with them whilst pushing MFP into opposition, it's time to have anther vote. The public will also be aware that iTV was Thaksin's company... he is the one who has been masterminding this plot to get rid of Pita.

 

The Baht is still rising against the dollar though, it fell to 33.97 today. Perhaps this 'smooth' transition of power will happen tomorrow with PTP, BJT + PPP, and we'll forget all about the results of the election.
