Thai Cabinet Approves 24/7 Operation of Entertainment Venues in EEC Areas Including Pattaya

The Thai Cabinet has approved a proposal to allow nightlife venues in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) area to operate 24 hours a day to meet the growing needs of tourists.

This includes the popular tourist city of Pattaya with thousands of entertainment venues.

However, before you get too excited, the regulation is not yet official and needs approval from regional and local leaders along with guidelines and regulations for the change. No timeline for this has been set.

The Ministry of the Interior is currently in the process of drafting a royal decree to allow the 24-hour operation of the entertainment venues within the EEC area. No exact completion date of the decree has been given yet.

The EEC area covers three provinces in the Eastern region of Thailand, namely Chonburi, Chachoengsao, and Rayong. However, not every nightlife venue in the province is allowed to stay open around the clock, only those in designated areas.

This legislation aims to support businesses in the EEC area in catering to increasing tourists who arrive at the U-Tapao Airport.

'Some early proposals suggest the change may only be to certain zones, such as Walking Street, and not the whole city'

Things need to be well-oiled to operate 24/7.

this extreme and unworkable, extend opening hours to 5am is all that is required (pre covid), or even 8am, few bars will use the extra hours but it provides some flexibility

What about the gogos that babe been gogoing all day for years on lk metro. I guess they don't count.

At least allow 7/11 to sell alcohol 24/7 in Pattaya again.

And having cleared the signs from WS impeding the tourist buses, we will have drunken revelers all over the place.

More accidents, more drunk driving, more deaths and more ambulance lights 24/7… Sure, will be a funny entertainment for people at work and for children watching historíes on the roads way to school. Smart Cabinet ????

This is probably the most important aspect of this story.

One has to wonder what other Ministerial decrees will get Gazetted into Law in the coming weeks.

IMO, this should have been lodged with House Speaker Wan Noor for debate in Parliament.

Huge mistake unless it is carefully zoned & policed, noise pollution is already at a ridiculous level

Anything to attract more quality tourists.  Alcohol 24/7, what could go wrong ?

Thai Government

Always grateful I don't run a bar.

"the growing needs of tourists." haha. I think we know what will be growing.

So, are we to have 3x8hour boozing shifts for tourists?

There are going to be some weary looking girls doing the shiny pole shuffle.

...except that don't mention alcohol at all, which is odd. If they don't also alter the alcohol selling hours, this would mean a lot of bars staying open all night serving cola and soda water!

The nightlife and entertainment zones already had differing selling hours compared to say BigC or 7-11. They went on to 2am, 3am some places, yet alcohol sales end at midnight elsewhere.

Very bad idea.

24 hour opening used to work perfectly well, back then it was a much better overall feeling in Pattaya.

I'm grateful I don't run or own any business in Thailand.

Plenty of such businesses stay open until dawn in Europe. Just another example of Thailand attempting to catch up with the outside world.
