A great Asian wise man said, "Before you tell your friend he has a small speck in his eye, remove the huge block of wood in your own eye."

Never fear - Peace Blondie knows his spiritual leaders :D . I will let him put you ... straight.

Thank you, WaiWai. Jesus was born in Asia, from people who originated in southern Iran/Iraq/Mesopamia. He never left Asia, always preached to Asians, and his teaching was.......Asian. Native Americans (so-called "Indians") are also Asians, in their origin.

I assume that the Indian from India, the Lord Buddha, had quite a few things to say about children, or else the Thai monks should be leading Thailand to make better Thais out of their young men. Or as the Canadian wrote, "Parents, teach your children well."

Having taught Matayom school here, I suspect that some of the wild teenage boys have not been taught responsibility for their actions and inactions. Public school here does not teach them to do their work, think for themselves, or to learn.

Thanks for that PB, I thought it was a song by Crosby, Stills and Nash. :o

I don't have teach responsibility to anyone. I KNEW that I was entirely too selfish to raise anyone else's kids so I married a woman who never had any. As far as the guys who married woman with children, better you than me. Good luck, you'll need it.

Thai Wasters??

From my experience every country has wasters. A least they are not state sponsored like the Chavs back in the UK.

I said don't tell us it happens elsewhere! That is NO answer to anything for Gawds sake!!!

Sorry, Didn't realise that you were moderating the thread. :o

I guessed it was Crosby, Stills, Nash and Neil Young. I give Neil too much credit for CSNY lyrics. I wanted to give the Canadians enough credit to play it on their radio stations.

Now, back to Thailand...

As with most things, it's best to start with the wasters (both men, women, boys and girls) in your own homes/businesses/offices/etc... and this certainly goes for the numerous falangs who have for one reason or another chosen to raise some local deadbeat dad's kid(s). It's a noble challenge if one can get over the inevitable self doubt/uneasy feelings that surely must come with that whole unnatural setup.

I know for my employees, nieces, and nephews: I try to imprint what few positive traits I have on my employees... mostly things like being thorough, frugal -I'm actually more frugal in the office... if you run loose/tight ship, it trickles down to everyone... and hardly frugal at all at home-, work before play -again, only at work-, saving/investing for the future and next generation, etc.

Just have a good strong relationship if you take on a woman with difficult kids.

They can be very resentful towards a new man in the family.

If they work at destroying your relationship and force the mother to make choice, they're likely to win.

Does anyone have any other ways to deal with these people?

Why would we need to deal with these people Neeranam? What does it have to do with us how our host nations decides to use - or not use - its human resources?

And while we're at it, why just the guys? What about the women who sleep all day before waking at 5, slapping on some cheap lipstick, donning their crappy short denim skirts before heading out in search of naieve farang men to fleece? Sure that's a sub-group of society that we should be paying more attention to? They have certainly done more damage to more farang guys, than their dimwitted brothers.

Many elder farang marry women with teenage sons. I'm asking for ways people have dealt with it. If you don't have to deal with it why bother reading this thread, let alone reply? Bloody troll :o

The problem is no worse in Thailand than it is in many other parts of the world. How would I handle it? The same way I handled it with my kid...when he was 18 he had his choice of getting a job, going to college or entering the military. He went to college...I paid the tuition as long as his grades were satisfactory and he got a job to pay his living expenses.

Drafting these kids into the military is a viable option in Thailand and the country certainly needs thousands of troops down south. It is amazing how fast you grow up when the bullets begin to fly in your direction....

imoho, i beg to differ, i have only two words for csn, crazy horse. no wonder neil young preferred rockin in the free world than csns cuddle folk round ups(joni mitchell covers, please spare us).

as for the godfather of grunge himself, the only guy i know to have been sued by his own record company for producing non neil young albums.can you blame them, lets look at the evidence.

1982, trans, synth crap, 1983 everybodys rockin, neil plays doo wap, 1985 old ways, neil goes country, 1986s landing on water should never have seen the light of day.

it wasnt until 1987s life that he returned to form, now we know what nirvana and pearl jam were listening to.

however normal service was resumed with 1988s this note for you, remember the video for this notes for you, where a whitney houston lookalike runs on and throws a bucket of pepsi over a michael jackson lookalike whose hair had caught fire, i think it was banned and never shown on mtv.

anyway sorry for digressing, but as you say, neil young rocks.

we tend to spoil our kids to brattiness just because of that -- he/she may be dead at 18 -... although i have to admit that my fairly spoiled son is now in a year of pre army during 11th grade and it already has him matured physically and mentally.... daughter has three more weeks of freedom before she's enlisted....

and thai husband hasnt a clue of what army really really means.... but definately helps u grow up if u survive it (the army and the bullets)...

but agree that projects etc do help; what about playing football (soccer) in evenings? i seem to have gotten a group of the more well off arab kids from the local village involved in horseback riding suddenly; they ahve to muck out stalls to get to ride and it tires them out so less 'hanging out' at the local nargila shop... but 'viroom' will be 'viroom' wherever they are in whatever country u are in....

Amen to that, Neil's the man.

BTW Nash wrote that title alone.

Back to topic - it's about respect and you can't beat that into kids.

My father tried it with me until I outgrew him, then he became afraid and told me I'd better take a hike.

I was then 14 and I never respected him.

The Germans still have national service but it doesn't make much of an improvement on the boys here.

They might fear their parents but it doesn't mean they respect them.

It shows when they hit the streets and diss everyone in sight.

Thais treat their sons much more leniently than their daughters. So they grow up thinking the Sun shines out of their backsides......My GF has a couple of them.

Recently she lent her 14yr old her brand new Mio Yamaha. He drove it into the ground in just a few months, so when she got it back it needed 5000bht spent on it!

Now you would think he would get a good kicking for that wouldn't you friends?

But NO. She simply shrugged, took it to the repair shop and expected me to pay for putting it right!

When I told her to go jump in the Lake. We had to have a big row......

A good dose of 'The Protestant Work Ethic' is what they need in LOS. There seems to be no

such thing in their Buddhist religion........

With the usual exceptions, most girls have 2/3 kids by the time they are 20, and NO SUPPORT from their lazy good for nothing boyfriends/husbands. So, to pay for the childrens food etc, the poor blighters are forced to leave them with Mamma, and go off to the main tourist towns in Thailand, where their sell their bodies to Farangs.

(I include this for the benefit of those outside the country who are unfamiliar with the situation.)

The sight of hundreds of beautiful semi-nud_e young girls, calling out to passing men, from the many Bars (in Pattaya for instance) is a sad, sad sight indeed......even sadder is the fact that most of them have often brutal Thai boyfriends who take most of their money.

And PLEASE don't tell me it happens elsewhere....I BLUDDY KNOW!

Whilst I agree that the subjects of this thread need a desperate kick up the arse, perhaps, for the benefit of those not familiar with the truth, you would kindly wind in your generalisations about the girls, their ideas, the reasons why and the prevelance of "brutal Thai boyfriends who take most of their money".

I ask this as you obviously know jack shit about Pattaya, or the subject matter that you profess to know so much about. I could spend all night educating you but for now, less wind and more facts would be appreciated. I actually do know what I am talking about on this subject.

I hate to see the military touted as a last resort for the worst behaving kids in a country. It only helps to increase the chance that they'll become the worst soldiers. Also, I hate to see the military touted as a benign system that merely helps kids grow up. Kids grow up between 18 and 25, whether or not they serve in the military. The purpose of an army is to kill enemy people (90% of whom are civilians) for the government, whether or not its citizens want the army killing people.

I hope I'm not dragging this silly topic off topic, but putting your kid in the army does not solve all his problem. When's the last time you talked to a Vietnam army veteran? I spent a night recently talking with an Australian who became addicted to heroin for years after returning from the war.

Yes, Jesus was from the Middle East, which is in Asia. He's Asian. Jews are....Asians, because they came originally from Asia. Jews and Arabs are Asians. Christianity started as an Asian religion; even Paul was from Asian Turkey which was then called "Asia Minor."

i live in a country that the majority of people male and female do active bullets flying around u army duty; most arent addicts and most have to do reserve duty actively ; some come back f***up but the majority get on with their lives (after the obligatory trip around the world and backpacking their way in and out of thailand) seriously after the army whereas before the army they were definately children... the army DOES help the majority deal with themselves etc with more responsibility, most, even the 'wimpy' types (those that physical hard work caused immediate headaches backaches foot aches etc) suddenly could deal with sporadic and fairly nasty tasting meals, sleeplessness, living in bizarre and stressful situations, self obedience and discipline, learning to live with others, help others, work as a team - geez i sound like a commerical-- but i just saw my son finish a 17 kilometer night march in 30 degree heat including carrying kilos of sand bags on a stretcher as part of their (boys and girls) final day for the summer of pre army training. i never saw a prouder kid and one that all the 'officers' spoke well of. this same child has previously been a cry whiner type who gave up if he failed once, shlumped around all day after school, and felt bitter about my divorce and remarriage... i digress...

and most become teachers doctors hi tech workers etc and do their 3 days active reserve duty until the age of 40+ w/o ever needing alcohol or drugs etc. to help them thru it all.

a big digression but i live in a militaristic society and see that those that dont do the army stay spoiled whining brats and dont grow up as fast or with as many 'tools' to deal with real life....

so maybe good for the basic thai male to do the army. BTW, for the lower economic classes with little or no schooling, here, our army does do 'catch up ' teaching for those that need it : reading writing geography etc; a good head start also.

Are Jews Asian? Thats probably news to most Jews. Maybe thats why we go out to eat Chinese food on Christmas.

If this is true, why do they call the Chinese the Jews of Asia but they don't call the Jews the Chinese of America?

So is a Jewish guy into Asian guys sticky?

You'll hear loads more stories about the military or boxing or some other "discipline" saving the lives of those who were treading a worrying path.

War is not to be honoured but those who give their lives in war should be honoured.

I doubt whether the youth of today would repell Hitler but they should not have to go to war with CNN, NBC, Fox, the BBC etc. on their shoulders worrying whether the bloody camaraman will rat them out for disposing of a necessary disposition.

Then you get the bleating liberalists who enjoy the freedoms so many died for to protect saying that war is bad, innocent people die etc. Makes me sick.

A large number of Thai youths are bone idle, violent, lack any respect for property or people and are parasites on their families and society. Unless something is done, more and more will follow the route of wanting all the things they see on TV without wanting to work for them. And we know how that works out don't we?

I couldn't find the emoticon for tongue in cheek, but as I stated, the genealogy of the Old Testament (the one I was taught by Christians) clearly has Abram coming out of Ur, in Mesopatamia, in the continent we still call "Asia" although it's the larger part of the land mass called "Eurasia." Genesis 10 may be a table of nations, races, languages, ethnic groups, or combinations thereof. I'm saying that Jews come from Asia, and that Moses and Abraham and Jesus were wise men from Asia.

No apology for being off topic.

bina, thanks for your reply. jingjing, yours too. No, I didn't mean that Jews are racially identical to Thais or Burmese.

My friend doesn't care about the kid. If he managed to pay to get him into the army, my friend's problems will be solved.

Thailand is not in the habit of starting wars.

'Asia' has different meanings depending on where you're from. If you described someone as 'Asian' to most Ukers they'd automatically assume you were talking about someone from the Indian sub-continent.

what a laughable thread. why dont you worry about "wasters" in your own country before worrying about them here.

Because we live here?

Posted (edited)

What a load of crap this thread is. As for the Protestant work ethic, get a grip on your self righteous selves.

The Protestant work ethic;. work hard all your life for little or personal gain and when you die you will get your reward in heaven.

Normally preached, many years ago, by Protestant land and business owners to thier Catholic employees.

Maybe that's why the youths in Thailand prefer to get drunk, ride bikes and cause trouble, because the alternative is to work yourself into an early grave for little or no reward, while your boss lords it over you.

Instead of the army, give them opportunities. sadly a long way off in Thailand.

Sheesh, you old gits, we were all young once, well some of us. You make me sick.
