Hello Husker. I am in Bangkok area getting consultations on a total hip replacement. Can you comment on how your surgery went and did you get the anterior procedure? Do you mind sharing what hospital you went to and the surgeon's name? What was the total cost? Thanks so much.

Inside the femur is where they will place the piece of titanium and then they will attach a ceramic ball to the top of it to be inserted into the hip joint that will have some sort of strong plastic liner placed into it. I asked "why plastic?" and I was told that this type of plastic won't wear out in my lifetime so I'm happy. It's interesting that yours has never set off an alarm. Did you experience much swelling or pain from the surgery?

My femur was broken in a motorcycle accident. The K-nail is placed inside the bone to hold it together while the bone mends. After the bone heals fully, you don't feel it at all. Normally they remove them, but mine wouldn't budge so they left it in.
