CT scan for Thai lady at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for Asthma. Any ideas?

Hi.. Does anybody have any idea cost of a CT scan for Asthma at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for a Thai National?

I worked on medical wards for a while, but I never heard of a patient having a CT scan for asthma. Had to look it up with google.

 

I'm sure they will do one if getting paid to do so though.

She has been told she has Asthma from a village Doctor and has been in hospital for it a few times after athma attacks.. I want her to go to a Good hospital to see a Specialist and get the correct tests done.. She has had no tests done at the village hospital.

The test for asthma is a pulmonary function test, during which the individual breathes in and out of a machine following instructions. A CT scan is not typically the initial test for someone with asthma. Perhaps the individual experiences frequent episodes of shortness of breath that the doctor is uncertain are truly asthma-related. As a result, the doctor orders a CT scan to explore potential alternative causes.

This is for lung cancer screening. Not for diagnosis of asthma. If CT is needed to confirm diagnosis of asthma (usually it is not), it needs to be a hi-res CT.

 

As noted by poster above CT would not be initially done, rather PFTs with CT only if  diagnosis remains unclear.

 

Seeing a pulmonary specialist  at BPH and having PFTs done will likely run about 10k on total. But that is just a guess.  Would be less costly at Pattaya Memorial or Phyathai Sri Racha.

In my ignorance I assumed that a CT scan of the chest could be useful for diagnosis of any chest complaint, and at 6,000 Baht it seemed like a bargain.

6,000 is for the low dose CT only. Useful for screening for lung cancer in people with history of smoking.

 

No reputable chest specialist is going to start with a CT i nthis lady's case. rather, PFTs and perhaps chest Xray. Basic blood work to look for allergy and inflammation markers as well.
