Awaiting arrest, ex-Prime Minister Thaksin returns to Thailand amidst political unrest

As Thailand anticipates the arrival of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, fresh from a self-imposed exile, arrest warrants are ready for viewing and inevitable jail time awaits him. His expected return is scheduled for tomorrow, incidentally, coinciding with parliamentary proceedings to elect the country’s 30th leader.

His daughter, Paetongtarn “Ung Ing” Shinawatra, a former prime ministerial candidate for the Pheu Thai Party, aired the news of her father’s forthcoming arrival. She conveyed via social media that Thaksin’s private plane is due to make its descent at Don Mueang airport tomorrow at 9am. Reportedly, Thaksin and his sister, Yingluck, made their way from Dubai to Singapore prior to the final leg of the journey.

An insider disclosed that officials are set to await Thaksin’s landing in the VIP segment of the airport. As soon as he sets foot in Thailand, senior police officers will promptly enlighten him about multiple arrest warrants and other documentation relevant to his case. Following this, Thaksin will be ushered to immigration before being transported to the Police Club on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. His journey concludes at the Supreme Court—where he will report.

BANGKOK, Aug 21 (TNA) – Pheu Thai’s prime ministerial candidate Paetongtarn Shinawatra has confirmed her father Thaksin Shinawatra will definitely return to Thailand on August 22.

His return date coincides with the parliamentary vote for prime minister.

Paetongtarn revealed that Thaksin will arrive at 9:00 AM by a private at Don Mueang Airport. Family members will be there to welcome him, followed by legal proceedings. Everyone respects the decision of the father and sees it as a gift for the family to reunite. The family is ready to support him to enter the justice process. No deal has been made with any parties before his return, she said.

' No deal has been made before he returns' Paetongtan says

She also said Thaksin's return had nothing to do with the proposed vote for Settha as PM.

She also said prior the election that PT would never join with Pravit and Prayuth's parties..

Does she realise no one believes the nonsense she talks?

This is also what I wonder about?

Does anybody believe even one word of what comes out of their mouths?

It's coincidence that he comes back on the same day of the PM election.

In case the PM won't be elected it will also be coincidence that he doesn't come on that day.

He wants to take care of his grandchildren - in the prison cell?

He has nothing to do with PT and Thai politics.

Bla bla bla - nobody even tries to make up somehow believable excuses.

Will Khunying Potjaman be there to greet him too??? ????

You'll be delighted when you see Thaksin get the vote for PM.  Followed by a triumphant procession to The Palace for the benediction. ????

Thaksin arriving at approx 0900hrs, voting for PM approx 1700hrs.

I find that impossible for Thaksin to cancel his trip, if the new PM is not elected,

Remember, Yingluck thought she had a deal with the opposition to pass the amnesty bill aimed at her brother. Instead, the Democrats reneged and Suthep launched the Bangkok Shutdown. It'd be funny if Thaksin arrives back in Bangkok and finds out that whatever deal he has finagled by betraying his supporters is also tossed out and he's left to rot in jail. I know I wouldn't trust the military.

I suspect that shortly after he is imprisoned, there will be an amnesty, the conditions of which will manage to include him and he will be out in short order..

What do you think will happen if Thaksin has Tuesday morning reason to believe that his PM won't be elected? Maybe a flat tire on his private jet?

That was Yingluck's idea not too long before the last coup...

There is only one person a deal could be with and that person is in a much higher pay grade than anyone in the Thai military present or past.

This is the 100th article discussing about the exact same things: "Thaksin returns" and the article content is the same. Sorry but you must improve the quality of the articles you select!

Since we can't tallk about that person we must use the euphemism "the military"

Why does he need to go via the 'Police Club'. (Which is a very large well equipped 'venue'.)

'Executive ceremonial lunch?'

He has used his supporters votes to cut a deal with a bunch of crooks for personal gain.

I hope the plan in place for his special treatment fails at the last minute

And he gets  locked up for the full term without special treatment suitable for a crook like him.

Yeah right! His plane will be delayed until/if Pheu Thai secures the PM position.

Thaksin may be a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them. He must have a cunning plan (m'lord) to get out of jail free, because i don't see him as the martyr type.

Taxi for Taksin lol

I would certainly believe most things that most Thai political parties say.

Having said that I would believe nothing that ANY party having anything to do with any military coup, especially BJT, PPRP and the UTN.
