Thailand’s potential to expand its ‘pink economy’ through the attraction of international LGBTQ+ retirees was the highlight of a recent conference held in Bangkok.

 

Dr Chaiwat Songsiriphan, who is the founder and medical director of the Safe Clinic, emphasised that Thailand’s high tolerance for gender diversity could make it an ideal retirement destination for the LGBTQ+ community. He further noted that the country is already recognised for its LGBTQ+ tourism, parties and nightlife entertainment.

 

However, Dr Chaiwat highlighted that to truly become an LGBTQ+ retirement haven, there is a need for more healthcare specialists and clinics focusing on HIV and STDs. The availability of specialised healthcare units for the LGBTQ+ community is currently lacking.

 

He asserted that the need for ease of access to antiretroviral drugs within the public healthcare system, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV infection, is paramount.

They may be on to something here.  Cliche as it may sound, a lot of Americans do, or intend to, retire in Florida.  The current governor of Florida seems bent on turning certain people away.  Thailand as the new Florida?

Are they not allowed to use normal STD centers?

 

Do they have much higher rates of STDs and HIV then heteros?

Good idea, but first make a Gay Marriage possible in Thailand...In many other countries they can marry and how does the immigration deal with a husband/wife that can't exist in Thailand??Thailand doesn't recognize samesex marriages, so there will be a lot of problems for them.. Start at the beginning instead of shouting things

Funny that more people are flooding into Florida than other states, whilst all places like San Fran, Chicago NY etc - dem states - are losing people and revenue and going bust. San Fran now is just a hell hole.

I think some countries do require a HIV test when applying for a visa, I know in Dubai certain countries have to a test, not sure these days,

It took them years and a lot of effort to alienate snowbirds, telling them 'you spend too much time here', and now they desperately search for any other groups to (temporarily) replace them with till they get tired of those too... (But yes, the arrival of the world's billionaires, expected to line up for settling down in Thailand is just delayed.)
