A formal complaint has been lodged with Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) by the director of the National Parks Office, Chaiwat Limlikhitaksorn, accusing 29 state officials at various agencies of involvement in the trafficking of precious wood out of the country.

Chaiwat told a news conference on Wednesday that they include 17 forest and national park officials, 8 police officers, 2 local administrative officials, a public prosecutor and an army officer attached to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC).

He claims that his officials have checked the money trail and found unusual transactions in seven suspected “mule” bank accounts, involving about 40 million baht.

Oh dear....

What is it about this country? Hardly a week goes by where some gov't official/employee or school administrator, or official isn't implicated in some sort of theft, embezzlement,or bribe taking incident.

The even nabbed an ISOC Security Officer.

There's no one left to trust.

I know the salaries are not high but they sure make up for it. (40 mil)

The only way they are ever going to stop this and the multitude of other Corrupt practices carried out here on a daily basis is get tough....like bullets in the backs of heads, because until they do it will go on forever.   Just watch how many of these Corrupt 'Officials' get sent to Prison, lose Pension entitlement, have Assets seized etc etc.   Much more likely they will get transfered to an 'Inactive Post', spend a few months doing nothing on full pay and return to do it all over again !

The Highest Authority could take an interest.

Trafficking rare timbers has long been an "entry level activity" on the way to "greater things".

Timely action now could prevent a possible future timeline or roadmap...

Looks like a forest of corruption I just can't see the wood for the trees anymore ????

What was once a common material for building a family home, even in Isaan, is now a precious material. Not hard to imagine the numerous financial aspects of this, including the wealth to be reaped by selling cement.

Is it different in your country? I'm from the US it's just as bad just not at the lower levels. There's absolutely no fiscal restraint. No integrity

We are coming to end of times and everyone is just going for it. Do you feel it?
