Suspected cop killer gunned down by police in Kanchanaburi province

A man, suspected of fatally shooting a highway police officer and injuring another in Nakhon Pathom on Wednesday night, was shot and killed by police in Kanchanaburi province early this morning (Friday).

 

Police claim that the suspect, identified as Thananchai Munmark, resisted arrest by opening fire at a police car, forcing the officers to fire back in self-defence. The shooting took place in Tha Rua district of Kanchanaburi at about 5.45am this morning.

 

Another suspect, identified as “Praween”, aka “Kamnan Nok”, the influential chief of Ta Klong sub-district in Nakhon Pathom, surrendered to Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police at the Mueang district police station yesterday. He denied all the charges against him.

 

Arrest warrants had been issued for Praween and Thananchai, after both men were accused of killing the highway police officer and injuring the other in the compound of Praween’s house.

That is very convenient, as there are many doubts about chief of the sub district... Probably no proof anymore , case closed

 It was reported that Praween had invited the two officers, among others, to his house for a familiarisation dinner, during which he asked one of the officers, Pol Maj Sivakorn Saibua, for promotional favours for some police officers who are close to him, but the officer refused. Praween reportedly got angry and left the dinner table abruptly. Shortly afterward, a group of gunmen arrived and opened fire at the two officers.

Interesting story. It was a monthly meeting where the police officers turn up for their money. 21 out of 30 people at the dinner were police officers, all highway police officers or connected to the highway police. Kamnok Nok is in the transport business and supposedly organizes, runs and collects for the transport 'sticker' business. His legitimate declared businesses bring in billions of baht. They know very well who he is. He probably paid for the positions for a lot of the officers.
Buying a position themselves isn't the only way to go up the police ladder. Makes sense for someone in the business to 'invest' and then he owns those officers. Kamnan Nok is also fairly young and supposedly gets aggressive when he's drinking. Unidentified witnesses said he told the dead officer to leave or there would blood. The officer tried to apologize and stayed. The apology wasn't accepted. So let's see where it goes. Has Kamnan Nok come to the end of a promising career or will it blow over, especially now the gunman is dead.

Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, the Anti- Corruption Division commander ordered a fact-finding committee to look into deliction of duty involving several police officers present at the scene of the highway police shooting.  

They are authorized to apprehend the offender but they let the gunman to flee. Initially, more than 10 officers will be summoned for questioning tomorrow. (TNA)
