The concept there seems to be that police officers can fight crime while also committing their own crimes.

Stranger things have happened, haven’t they?

The Thais should be proud that their culture is tolerant enough to put up with racist bigots such as yourself without deporting them. I've been here 10 years and the only troubles I've seen or had personally are with farang, mostly badly behaved Brits. It baffles one as to why you even live here, if you do. Did you come here because there weren't enough things to complain about in your home country? You should move (or go back to) to the US, they love people like you.

Are you saying that Thai society isn’t corrupt? Is he wrong to point out that patently blatant fact?

take off the rose tinted glasses Mr. swift, there’s a real world out there you know, and it ain’t all chocolates and roses!

What is racist about stating a fact, one that everyone is aware of and something that is exposed in the news every single day? It has been revealed on this site that well over 80% of Thais are fine with corruption, as long as there's something in it for me me me.

I moved here so that my wife could be close to her numerous family and friends, well over 25 years ago. Back then it was a very different country in many ways, although at the same time one you only really got to know after a period of time spent in the country. Then you got to read of the daily murders, corruption, the deadly road toll, the total and complete lack of any logic or common sense. That takes time to discover. I hope that has unbaffled you.

And in other news, the gov't is already setting up a committee "to examine the recent searches carried out on the residence of Police General Surachate Hakparn (Big Joke).

So they are investigating what led to those raids and who to go after for reporting Big Joke and his subordinates to the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

And the other article notes:
"Lastly, it was clarified that the raids are not directly linked to the selection of the new National Police Chief set for tomorrow, September 27."

Yeah. Just like when FBI Director Comey announced (with no evidence whatsoever) that the Bureau was re-examing the evidence in the Clinton "private email server" issue.
11 days before the 2016 election.

(And then told Congress, just 2 days before the election, that the FBI's conclusions hadn't changed from July when they'd recommended no charges be laid against her).
By then the damage had been done.

Like that wasn't planned to try and skew a lot of "on the fence" voters to vote for Trump instead of Clinton, by making it seem they'd uncovered some nefarious scheme that would make her unsuitable for office. (And remember all of Trump's "jail her !" rhetoric. Yet throughout his time in office they never charged her with anything).
(And she still beat him in the overall popular vote by nearly 2.5 million votes. But it did cause a number of "state electors" to go against the results of their states and vote for Trump instead of Clinton as they were supposed to do. However it seems she would have still lost even if those "faithless electors" had of voted like they were supposed to.)

So one has to wonder how this case against Big Joke suddenly hit the news.
The day before the selection of a new National Police Chief.
Days after a convicted criminal that still hasn't gone to prison was touted as possibly becoming an advisor to the current gov't (effectively becoming the shadow PM).
And days after a politician shot and killed a police officer and wounded another during a party at the politicians house, with the police providing him an escort to flee the scene immediately after the shooting.

I'm sure it's all just a coincidence.

Nope! just a misunderstanding - to be sorted out soon, but not too soon.

I envy his blue Pima cotton boxers. Those are not easy to find anymore. Barney's NY used to carry them, but Barney's went belly up. Saks 5th Ave used to carry them, too, but went the way of metrosexual fashion that men now favor, which is wild color mesh bikini stuff or just tighty-whities. Very undignified.

Makes me fear for the species. Boxers allow a man to feel like a man, and junk to find its own level. Also, the Pima or Sea Island cotton never causes irritation.

For his undergarment choice alone, I hope Big Joke goes free.

The loudest one in the room is usually the one with the most dirt under his fingernails.

The fact that big joke claims to be this whiter than white knight in shining armor is a huge red flag.

He should have stayed out of the spotlight and worked in the shadows if he truly wanted to fight crime in a meaningful, productive way. His big mouth and public persona may now be coming back to bite him hard on the behind..

Hang on, even Big Joke has a right to privacy.

Big Joke and others broke up the Online Gambling ring in July.

It seems immediately after some of his industrious subordinates started running the site themselves after seeing how much cash could be had.  That's a quick turnaround ...

I heard from a Thai that 4-5 other houses on the same soi were raided too.  These all belonged to Big Joke and he apparently rents them out to some of his subordinates.

To think, this is the same guy who blamed crime rates on motorcycle gangs using retirement extensions.

Further suspicion has been cast on the Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, after a video recorded by a renowned Thai lawyer showed Big Joke singing with a leading online gambling operator at a party.

Imagine Al Capone and Frank Nitti starting up a barbershop quartet with Elliot Ness and J. Edgar.
