Dead Bryde’s whale towed ashore in Cha-am district for examination

The remains of a Bryde’s whale was towed by trawler to Cham-am beach, near a fishing pier in Phetchaburi province today (Thursday), after it was found floating at sea, about five kilometres from the shore.

 

The whale, which is estimated to weigh about ten tonnes and is 13 metres long, is believed to have died more than 10 days ago and is in a state of decomposition.

 

The remains were subsequently towed to the Rama VI barracks in Cha-am district, to be examined by veterinarians from the marine and coastal resources research centre to determine the exact cause of its death.

You can take a whale watching tour from September to December to see the Bryde whales. During this period they will swim up the Gulf and easy to spot.

Amazing that you can go on a whale watching fptiur close to Bangkok (Ban Kun Tian). You can/could also spot Irrawady dolphins near Ban Pakong.

As @SoilSpoil mentioned above, did this in 2018. Huge female with calf. If really lucky, can also see Irrawaddy (beakless ) Dolphin too. Great day and well worth it.

Isn't any whales in Chiang Mai - well, not marine ones anyway.

I saw a whale off Pak Nam Pran last year but was disappointed to be told it was a German lady in a silver bathing suit.
