National-Scale Operation in Thailand Targets Illegal Weapons in 47 Provinces

The Thai Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) launched a national-scale operation to eradicate illegal and improvised weapons users and dealers in over 47 provinces across Thailand.

 

At 6:00 AM, October 9th, 2023, Pol Lt. Gen. Jirabhop Bhuridej, Commander of the CIB, dispatched police officers, undercover agents, and special operations teams, in total up to 800 officers, on a crime eradication operation. The mission was to capture illegal and improvised weapons users, dealers, and smugglers in over 47 provinces across Thailand.

 

Pol Lt. Gen. Jirabhop stated that from the previous outrageous incident of a shopping mall shooting spree, there were many illegal firearms on the online market that could easily be accessed.

About time. Next step follow UK rules, I know very difficult in this country but one can try. It will not eradicate them but it is a step in the right direction

Has been known for years, and only now do something, Still no mention of mandatory sentencing now I wonder why that is RTP? So is that it, job done? until the next crazy shooting.

While leaping into action is admirable, I have to ask what these 800 officers were doing before being assigned to this crackdown. And will those tasks go unattended while the illegal gun trade is mopped up? Will the drug trade expand, not that it can very much as it seems to be running at full capacity? Have all the Influential People been categorized?

 

I think there is pressure to make it look like the government is "doing something" about the gun supply, so this may be more theatre than anything else.

Looking at this pic reminds me of a time when a BIB asked me if I wanted to buy a pistol. Glock. Wanted Bt5000. This was a long time ago. I should have bought it. Apart from that I'm sure there is more than one "off the record" gun among this lot.
