More than a few dollars. Russia is among the largest trading partner with Thailand with exports of 1.02 B USD and large investments in real estate, business and tourist revenues that will grow to 10 B. Sretha is doing what best for Thailand notwithstanding Putin is a evil pariah and a human rights abuser.

I was reading a couple of news articles this morning that said Putin is on his last legs, very ill, and that he sent a body double to China.

So it might have just been said body double accepting, hoping for a way out of Russia.

As Thailand is a signatory to the Rome Convention (membership to the International Criminal Court) they would have to arrest him when he touches down on Thai soil.

Uh no… Thailand is a NATO Country and Vladimir Putin is wanted by The Hague for WAR CRIMES. No. 

I don't think Russians in Thailand would appreciate the visit of the person they are running away from. Putin will have an easier access to those people if he becomes pretty chummy with the Thai PM.🤷🏻‍♀️

Putin can come to Thailand and meet with all the draft dodgers.  He can hear their concerns and address their fears.  Or he might just poison them all.

Thailand’s new PM made the announcement on Tuesday after meeting with Putin in Beijing where he extended the invitation to the Russian leader, who faces an international arrest warrant on the world stage over alleged war crimes through the conduct of his war in Ukraine. 

 

“I invited [Putin] to visit Thailand, and he nodded in appreciation, saying ‘Thank you’ in Thai. This shows that he has a good familiarity with our country,” Srettha said on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. He noted that Putin has visited the Thai tourist town of Phuket several times.

 

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Third Belt and Road Forum meeting, which China is hosting.

This will be very popular with Ukrainian tourists. Next should be a state visit from Rocket Man in N Korea. Anutin can take him out to fire anti aircraft guns along the beach in Pattaya at unwanted relatives he brings with him to demonstrate his gun control policy. 

 

Seriously though it seems that Srettha is being sent off glad handing around the world so he can't interfere with Thaksin's advisory team running things behind the scenes, like Yingluck was.  But he seems to have deviated off Thailand's cautious neutrality stance but wanting to be friends with anyone he bumps into on the road.  He came back from the US claiming a big win in persuading big tech to make huge investments in Thailand but will they feel comfortable with Thailand being so cosy with China and inviting Putin, when they can't have any presence in Russia at all? Maybe Elon Musk will but Tesla has no plans to build a factory in Thailand for sure.

It seems Thailand wishes to align itself alongside such countries as N Korea, Belarus, Eritrea and China.

 

in reality, it’s nothing to do with geopolitics and all to do with agriculture exports, tourists, tourists and more tourists. That’s about the depth of Thai foreign policy.
