How to stay for 2-3 months?

   I plan to visit Thailand, from the USA, after the new year and would like to stay for 2 or 3 months. What are my options?  Thanks in advance.

One good option is to get a single entry tourist visa using the e-visa system (everything handled online with no visit to an embassy/consulate with the visa sent to you by email). The system does not always work smoothly, but it is nice to have a visa all set before you visit.

 

The tourist visa gives you an initial permission to stay of 60 days (59 nights). You can get another 30 days easily applying at the local immigration office.

 

Another option is to enter Thailand visa exempt (without a visa). As a US citizen you receive a 30-day (29 nights) permission to stay. You can get additional visa exemptions by taking side trips to neighbouring countries.

Travel without doing anything will give you 30 days visa exempt. You can then easily extend that by 30 days for 1900 baht at local immigration.

 

If you want more than that you need to apply for a tourist visa which gives you 60 days which you can also extend for 30 days same as visa exempt above.

 

Or, you can do 30 day visa exempt, extend 30 days, then jump across the border and get another 30 days visa exempt which you can also extend 30 days

Oops, I forgot that I had already asked this question months ago!  But one more question, my return ticket is about 10 days shy of 90 days. Will that cause a problem when entering with either visa?
