NoshowJones
The battery on my old laptop dies whenever the plug is pulled out, everything else is fine. Do I need a new battery?

stubuzz
If it is removable, take it out and refit it. If it still doesn't work,it's probably dead.
observer90210
Try getting the voltage of the battrey tested at any road side shop with a multimeter ? I use such a device to check on my remote batteries etc when left unused. Sometimes just brushing the battery with plastic or a metal brush (the small remote ones) give it an extra use of a few weeks or more.
CanadaSam
Common problem with old laptops, either use it plugged in, or get a new battery. Even better, get a new laptop, they are dirt cheap nowadays.

NanLaew
My recently retired 12 year-old ASUS laptop was still good enough on the original, user replaceable battery after 5 years, but I thought that was pushing the envelope and getting a replacement when I needed it would be more difficult, so I ordered a spare. Both batteries are still good. The new ASUS laptop has the built-in battery, but a YouTube showed how easy it is to replace when needed. I have already upgraded the SSD.
