Since it's from/about ReverSharger maybe it's extending the current free/reduced electrons promotion from 5 months to 12 months.   The current promotion began 1 Aug 2024 and ends 3 Jan 2025 ( a few more days than 5 months)....maybe BYD will be extending the promotion by 7 months till 31 July 2025 which ends-up giving 12 months of free/reduced rate electrons.

 

This would line up with a govt rep announcing in late July 2024 that supposedly BYD agreed to 12 months of free/reduced rate electrons but a few days later BYD only implemented the current promotion for 5 months  Time will tell.

After looking at ReverSharger Facebook page I now think it will have something to do with ReverSharger "Wallet"....maybe doubling, tripling, etc., the amount a person has earned from charging.  And since the Facebook poster says the gift is for "everyone" I now kinda doubt it being related to the BYD free/reduced rate promotion which did not apply to everyone.  Plus, BYD vs ReverSharger would probably be the one announcing an extension of the free/reduced rate promotion. 

 

Who knows....we are all guessing....time will tell.

Did my 1 year/20k service today ( actually due Nov 30th and 19,100 km) but whatever !

Included a tyre rotation and wheel balancing ( paid 417 baht for balancing ).Took 2 hours officially.

 

An update was also performed , system version now 2407, update version V1.3.0

No info available on what actually changed but have noticed a few minor things:

Screensaver clock moved from one side to the other (?)

Vent/heat seating shortcut on main screen with other air icons.

Some changes to settings of AVAS sounds.

 

( no navigation route planner, more flexibility for shortcut icons or variable indicator sounds as seen in the V1.4.0 update in Europe)

 

Also got the SIM change and gbox download associated with it, some apps already installed.

All works, tried YouTube and it works moving gear from P to D so presumably can watch while on the go ( if anyone has a death wish !! ).

Good to see ABRP on there as some seem to prefer over Google maps or Waze etc.

Google maps will now play in portrait mode which it won’t in CarPlay ( don’t know about Android Auto ).

 

Only thing that failed is Google Play Store refuses to work despite logging into google.

therefore meaning non of the available apps can be added.

Apparently this is a common problem, seen plenty on FB struggling with this but haven’t understood how to cure it ……… anyone ?

I've seen above "Try Again" error a few times....every time I have clicked it to Try Again it "did" make a connection on the 1st or 2nd click....all was fine.

Thanks, i will indeed “ Try Again “ tomorrow to see if it just needs a few attempts.

 

Although, suspiciously, when the dealership lady showed me the GBox app it was as my photo above i.e. had some apps already installed and she attempted to open Google Play Store only as if to say “ this one is problematic, you have a go “

 

Anyway, tbh, I don’t think there is much more i want to add but i will take a look at some of the FB groups who were reporting the same issue and see if anyone has a fix if the problem persists.

 

@JBChiangRai, @Bandersnatch and @mistral53 have also done the SIM swap possibly, i wonder if they are having any similar issues ?

But Network settings will tell you the SIM operator, previously Sing Tel now True.

I had my service yesterday, they fixed a klunking noise from front passenger suspension (I suspect a missing bolt) and said there’s a ticking noise at 30kmhr over gravel in ECO mode so I’ve just dropped the car off with them to fix (I can’t reproduce it) and I’ll pick it up when we get back from Phu Quoc.

 

Amazingly, nobody charging their car at BYD right now while I wait for my daughters to pick me up.

Nope for me, definitely doesn’t get past the Try Again screen when trying to open Google Play Store or any of the available apps. ( Logged in to Google and all the other installed GBox apps open normally ).

 

I recall when the sim swap was being rolled out a few posts on FB showing the same Try Again screen, I seem to remember seeing a video about it being something about “ Permissions “ but the video seemed quite complicated ( and in Thai ! ) so i didn’t get much of it.

 

Strangely if i try to download a new app from the GBox available list it gives me a message in french “ s’il vous plait ………. permission …….” which i have seen before on my previous GBox app.

 

Unless anyone on here has had a similar experience and has the magic fix i won’t attempt any DIYing as that is destined for failure but might put a post on FB Seal group , unfortunately has to be the Thai group !!

Yeap...it turned out to be related to the Wallet.  When you use a ReverSharger charger you earn credits....the more KWH you use can change you wallet rating from a status of Silver, Gold, or Platinum.   Even when charging-up with BYD 'free/reduced rate" electrons it counts as credits/affect the rating status of your your wallet.  Like for me since I've used ReverSharger a LOT over the past several months under the BYD free electrons promotion which runs thru 2 Jan 2025 by ReverSharger status rating is Platinum. 

 

This big Christmas gife ReverSharger was advertising (now on their Facebook page) is basically a reduced charging rate depending on your ReverSharger Wallet Status rating.   See below.  With my Platinum rating I will be able to charge for Bt5.8/KWH....which is not bad considering it costs me Bt5.2/KWH when using my home wall charger...and that 5.2 baht includes the basic rate, Ft, VAT, and meter fee.   This Christmas gift expires at the end of Jun 2025.

Just to confirm...have you logged into your Google acct?  If not you need to as that allows update of Google Play, download/install of the app shown on the Gbox screen, etc.

Yes, tried signing out and logging in again but it always shows i am logged in on top right of the try again screen.

When you get a moment can you check which version of Gbox you have been given and if you can open Google Play Store.

Bit of an anti climax then !

When this appeared in the Wallet 2 months ago i googled it and it said that achieving each tier would give a discount next year, although didn’t say for how long the discounts would apply.

Silver = 10%
Gold = 20%
Platinum = 30% ( which with my schoolboy maths should be 5.6 baht ? )

 

I thought i had done well to hit 700 kWh until i saw someone posting on FB  with over 1000 kWh . As is the FB way others posted their achievements, the highest i saw was 3500 kWh !!

If you are getting the  "Authentication  is required.  You need to sign into your Google account....Try Again"  OR you are getting "Something went Wrong...Try Again" message it's probably because you are "not" signed into your google account although it may appear you are signed in as you see the icon in the upper right indicating your are logged in but you may have really got logged out.

 

Go to the G-box icon, long press it, press Storage, and then clear both Data and Cache.  This will reset G-box....it will take about 30 seconds to reset itself to its original status and then you can log into Google Play with your google acct....things should work then.   I did this process before...it pretty much just starts you fresh with G-box....G-box is not deleted or anything like that...it's just reset.

Okay thanks, will try this in the morning.

 

The first time i tried GBox ( yesterday at the dealership) i had to log into my Google account using Two factor Authentication ( or whatever it is called ) but then it would login automatically every time I open GBox.

Clicking on my icon in top right only gave me option to sign out so certain I was logged in. In fact I did login in and out a couple of times later in the day trying to kick start it.

Thanks man that sorted it !

Logged in again with Google ( 2 step verification ) .

It cleared the installed apps so put a few up there from available list ( YouTube and YouTube Music etc )  searched for ABRP in Play Store and installed that as well.

Apparently with the system version upgrade to 2407 it is now not required to downgrade to sideload apps and the “old” method of using a USB flash drive called third party apps together with a password ( BYD6125F ) works again .

I guess with the addition of the GBox app it seemed pointless to restrict sideloading apps.

The only advantage i now see in sideloading is the ability to create individual shortcuts without going through GBox.

Or if you want to add an app not available in Play Store.

I don't have connectivity issues since my SIM was swapped - the only, probably unrelated, issue I occasionally encounter is a very slow response to voice commands shortly after start-up, almost as if the CCP supervisor is sleeping at his desk..........but who knows?

I don’t use the voice commands, I don’t dislike them but just haven’t adapted, its probably with a Thai wife and 2 teenagers normally in the car I would have to shout to make myself heard !!

 

One thing I have noticed since the update/SIM change is that using the BYD app to enable the air con doesn’t start the car i.e. have to press the Start button when you get in.

Maybe a safety thing but it does feel strange to have the air running but nothing else working ( screens etc ).
