Meth is a nasty drug that no one should be using, but this is good news and going in the right direction. Hope they will move towards a harm-reduction approach with other drugs as well, instead of focusing on just punishing drug users under draconian laws. It's amazing what they are doing now in some European countries, like having mobile drug testing labs at festivals where they test drugs for purity and advise users how to minimize risks with them.

I hope they will also implement programs to help users to stop. Until now, the main cure offered to drug addicts who wanted to stop was to be arrested and be kept in a prison cell without treatment.

the mate word being used in this instance is clearly nefarious. if i was bob i would agree and arrive hours before hand. stash the drugs nearby and watch the police clown out when i met you for coffee.

Debate over redefining methamphetamine possession limit in Thailand heats up

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has called for a comprehensive discussion surrounding the Public Health Ministry’s proposal to redefine anyone in possession of under 10 methamphetamine pills as an addict rather than a criminal.

 

The meeting took place yesterday and involved high-ranking officials from the Royal Thai Police (RTP), the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), and the prime minister’s advisories.

 

The 61 year old prime minister highlighted the importance of further deliberation before a conclusive decision is made on the ministry’s proposed reclassification. This proposal has been met with opposition from various agencies, including the RTP.

 

The RTP has expressed concerns that the proposed reclassification may escalate the drug issue, suggesting instead that a limit of five pills would be more appropriate.

Deputy National Police Chief, Kitrat Phanphet, concurred that the issue remains controversial. Discussions are ongoing within the RTP regarding the ministry’s proposed 10-pill limit, reported Bangkok Post.

I'm not sure the meth problem here can be escalated.
