On November 7th, 2023, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister, clarified to Thai national media about the extension of opening service hours of entertainment districts to 4 AM in four pilot provinces.

At present, the Ministry of Interior is in the process of reviewing and listening to various opinions and complaints from locals and owners of entertainment venues before presenting them to the cabinet, said Anutin.

Anutin apologized for misleading information from the previous statement that the extended-hour services will not cover alcohol sales until 4 AM which is incorrect. He meant to mention service establishments that are similar to entertainment venues that could provide alcoholic beverages until midnight such as late-night restaurants, karaoke, and similar businesses. Qualified entertainment venues in approved, legal, entertainment zones would be allowed to serve alcoholic beverages until 4AM.

Thai government says public hearings needed before nightlife extension

It seems the question of whether or not to extend nightlife operating hours in popular tourism areas hasn’t been put to bed yet. The Interior Ministry, headed up by former health minister Anutin Charnvirakul, says public hearings and regulatory amendments will be needed before any extended hours can be approved.

Meanwhile, it’s already been widely announced that closing times will be officially extended to 4am in some zones in Bangkok, Phuket, Chon Buri (code for Pattaya) and Chiang Mai.

The PM retta Thavisin hopes the measure will boost the local economies and the tourism sector, which is still recovering from the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This means nearly everywhere will be closed at the normal time, doesn't it?

What's wrong with this people. Can't they just agree what's gonna happen and communicate. Not this, one day off, next day on statements.

Write a legislation and stick to it. Or is it just the usual ambiguity to make the RTP make their monetary goals.... and the system goes on, and on...

INTERIOR MINISTER ANUTIN Charnvirakul confirmed today ( Nov.7) all entertainment venues in Bangkok and a few major tourist provinces will be legally allowed to provide alcoholic beverages to their customers until 4 a.m.

Anutin admitted that he had been earlier confused over whether these entertainment places can still provide alcoholic beverages after midnight though they may be legally allowed to open until 4 a.m. since the government has been looking to promote tourism in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi and Phuket, all being primarily viewed as the country’s major tourist spots.

The interior minister has now officially confirmed that these places can provide alcoholic beverages to their customers until the closing hour which will be extended to 4 a.m. as of Dec.15.

In the days when I would frequent the nightlife areas, I never had trouble finding alcohol whatever the time; half the fun was the illicitness of it.

This guy is a complete and utter embarrassment to the government..

he made a complete fiasco with the cannabis change and now seems to be doing the same with the alcohol serving times.

Better have someone speak out who knows what they're talking about.

Yet it's been mentioned that trials will take place in certain areas from Dec 15th?

Pattaya night clubs already adapted this policy, so it really doesn’t matter.

How about do something that make more sense... like extending opening service hours for selling alcohol from 5PM to 4PM:burp:

Anutin was confused....<deleted>!

Goodness me.

The incompetence of these people is truly baffling.

But I don't give a hoot :coffee1:

Once again, what could possibly go wrong???
