Popular Post CharlieH
Rishi Sunak sacks Suella Braverman as home secretary Suella Braverman has been sacked as home secretary, after she defied No 10 over an article accusing the Met Police of bias in the policing of protests. Mrs Braverman was accused of stoking tension in the article ahead of protests in London over the weekend. James Cleverly has been announced as her replacement, leaving the post of foreign secretary currently vacant. She said serving as home secretary was "the greatest privilege of my life". A quick guide to Suella Braverman Follow live: Cameron and Cleverly seen at No 10 after Suella Braverman sacked Another arrival at Number 10 on Monday morning was former prime minister David Cameron, prompting suggestions he would be returning to government as foreign secretary. Mr Cameron, who has been out of Parliament since he stood down as a prime minister in 2016, could be given a seat in the House of Lords to take up his new position. Mrs Braverman's sacking kickstarts a major Cabinet reshuffle by Rishi Sunak as he reshapes his top team ahead of next week's Autumn Statement. 'Highly irresponsible' Since her elevation to home secretary by former PM Liz Truss, Mrs Braverman has been seen as a standard bearer for the right in the Conservative party. In a statement, Mrs Braverman said: "I will have more to say in due course", leading to speculation she may cause trouble for the leadership. She lost her job following days of a political firestorm sparked when she wrote an article for The Times newspaper, accusing the police applying a"double standard" and took a tougher stance with right-wing demonstrations. The article was not cleared by No10 and it later emerged Mrs Braverman had defied a Downing Street request to tone the article down. Labour, the Liberal Democrats and some Tory MPs had called for Suella Braverman to be sacked. Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper, said Mrs Braverman actions were "highly irresponsible" and inflamed tensions and making the job of the police harder. Popular Post RayC
Hmm🤔 ....... Not so sure this is good news. Gives this mad bigot even more opportunity to galvanise support and organise. Hopefully, the saner members of the Tory party will resist and prevail. The label 'Nasty Party' will be very apt if she ever becomes leader. 4

Not sure that there will be an all-out assault, unless she thinks that she has a chance of ousting Sunak before the next election. Imo more likely she bides her time until after the next election and snips away from the fringes i.e odd (in both settings of the word) articles and appearances here and there undermining Sunak. Time will tell. 1

Popular Post JonnyF
Weak move by Sunak. I would suggest a new position for Braverman. Something more senior like, oh I dont know - PM? Hopefully sooner rather then later. Sunak has been average and this latest lily livered decision is the final straw. Suella for PM. 3

A leadership battle and another change of PM in the final year before the General Election. Now that would make wonderful campaign material. 2 1 1

If that ever happens, The Sun could certainly dust off the headline about 'Last one out of the country turn off the lights'. What has happened to the UK over the past decade? How on earth is it possible that someone so clearly unsuitable for high political office can be seriously considered as a future party leader? We can only hope that Conservative MPs and members take a good, hard look at themselves and come to the conclusion that, under no circumstances, can they elect this incapable, divisive loon to be their leader. 2 1

I agree with Stevenl, she'll wait, but be careful what you wish for: Even the slimmest possibility of this loon being elected PM should be avoided if possible. 2 1

When will you listen to the facts and stop making yourself look stupid. You are again going to be on the wrong side of history. 2 1

As a Minister of State she had two jobs, that of her office and that of supporting the Government. She failed miserably at both. 2 1

As a Minister of State she had two jobs, that of her office and that of supporting the Government. She failed miserably at both. Telling the truth is against the ministerial code? Why is that? Everyone can see with their own eyes the police force is more of an "appease force" when it comes to matters of Islam, BLM etc and only acts like a police force when someone is saying hurty words on Twitter that goes against their leftist political views. The police have not been doing their jobs over the last 4 weeks, allowing hate filled marches on the streets which has been causing Jewish people to not be able to leave their homes as they know all too well that the police will not protect them if/when they are assaulted/killed on one of the "largely peaceful" hate marches. If a politician breaks the "ministerial code" for stating facts in a newspaper article (however uncomfortable those facts may be), then it is clearly not the politician that is the problem here. Considering Sunak was not elected by party members, nor does he have support of the British public either (according to polls) I'd suggest he is failing at the job he should be doing, and I still remain befuddled at how he managed to worm his way into it. 2

But thanks anyway for putting them into good use and identifying the elephant in the room. How many of the opponents of this week’s protest march have flipped against their usual defense of free speech and long history of bleating about being silenced but also have a track record of ranting against Islam? And no I don’t expect you to count them. Edited November 14, 2023 by Chomper Higgot 2
