Five core members of the now defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), a political pressure group which engineered the mass protests against the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in 2013-14 were, given suspended prison terms by the Criminal Court today.

Another core member was sentenced to six months, which was not suspended because he has served prison time in the past. The seventh defendant was acquitted, with the court ruling that his address to the protesters was an honest expression of opinions.

All seven former PDRC members were on trial on charges of insurrection, terrorism, creating public unrest and causing damage to state property during the prolonged protests between November 23rd, 2013 and May 1, 2014, in an attempt to force the resignation of the Yingluck administration, which was ultimately topped in a military coup, led by General Prayut Chan-o-cha on May 22, 2014.

Yet the students and young people who were arrested for protesting against the Prayuth's government are still in jail.

Equal treatment and justice for all?

I think not.

Real equal justice is a joke in Thailand

freedom of speech is allowed... depending on who the recipient is.

Insurrection , terrorism , public unrest ...?

A bit heavy for just organizing protest marches .

What about freedom of expression ? ( this is a purely rhetorical question , of course )

The underlying message here, don't mess with Pheu Thai, we'll get eventually!

The government shows again if you protest against Pheu Thai, you will get off, Scott Free. Like PAD in 2008, Goverment House & airport occupations. Justice in Thailand goes to those with the most powerful backers; Reds do jail time, yellows not so much.

But most politicians are bottom feeders, manipulate the vulnerable, easy pickings!

Only because 75% of voters are idiots. If only the top 25% could vote you get good politicians.

But these bottom feeders make the laws so they are locked in. Scumbags supported by low IQ voters.

It seems that this charge of terrorism has been conveniently expanded, to include anything the government does not like. They sure are intolerant of any sort of criticism. Yet, they still insist they are a democracy, even with stolen elections. I do not think so.
