It is just blind stupidity

Yep,

Including my other half.

Addicted to phone online casino/ bandit machines.

Blind stupidity. She has a new Toyota Legender, three houses, 4 rai, the latest TV and a fridge and freezer full, but still feels the need to spend her monthly allowance on online gambling, then comes begging, swearing that's the end and she quits, she can't.

She openly admits if I wasn't so strong that the lot would have gone years ago.

It's the only problem we have together. She is not into fancy clothes, the latest phones, drinking etc but gambling is a different story.

I stopped buying gold years ago, for the above reasons as I knew where it would end up

Damn, she could gamble away those assets you bought.

I've seen that in the village. Cars, farm, gone.

I said it before ,If people are that stupid to go to Loan Sharks there's no hope for them.

If one can't get a loan from the banks that just means one doesn't have/earn enough money to pay back the loan.

No matter the financial trouble they are in they should talk to arrange a certain payment to pay back ,may that be for a wedding or a funeral or hospital bills.

Anything else is  just self inflicted trouble.    No sympathy

There's no need to spend Millions on weddings and funerals  and Ferraris if one can't afford  that, that's just plain stupid .

One doesn't have to show off or look better than the Joneses next door.

But saying this. there's no need for the Sharks to charge an outrageous amount off interest. some people have to pay back ten times the amount they borrowed and more.

This is where the Law should come in (the ones not in the shark business) and jail them, most people know the Sharks.

It's no good for the Govment to Bail the people out .let the people pay back the loan to the Sharks   No extra interest just the money they borrowed.

I might include some of the credit cards too....

Some 'small' short term loans one sees in the UK have shocking interest rates too.

I think you are being unsympathetic to some of the poorer people in the world.....

I've got a usufruct over the land and houses. For the car, I make sure there is plenty of finance or enough that she cannot borrow against it.

The motorbike has been borrowed against as we speak.

It's been ongoing for years, without the gambling, a perfect partner. Not lazy, cleans, washes, cooks, pleasant to get along with, etc.

Yes maybe unsympathetic But it's their own fault isn't it not society.

The people have to learn to budget their money just like us (we have to) it doesn't matter  if one is poor or not. I grown up from having next to nothing. We said No to many things we couldn't afford.

Don't spend more than what you make/earn/saved.

The business owner, Chai, borrowed just 30,000 baht but has ended up paying over 3 million baht in interest.

That must be some bid'ness!

If he can pay off 3 million with an investment of only 30K, the man's a genius.

Shirley, I'd hire him to manage my affairs.

"If he has paid three to four times the principal, the debt will be considered settled."

Let's see, he borrowed 30,000thb and has paid over 3 million thb in interest - or 100 times the principle. I would say the loan sharks owe him a 2.88 million baht refund...

My partner is of Vietnamese origin..  I had to promise him years ago that if ever I caught him gambling ,I’d do everything to stop it immediately.  He never did gamble, but we have friends and colleagues also same origins and they all have the addiction.. Definitely something in the Asian genes.
