That reminds me when I walked once into a short time hotel with a girl.

The lady at the front desk asked her: How old are you? She replied: 16.

The front desk lady said: Ok, hurry up.

  Was she definitely 16 ?

For questions to be asked about her age and then 16 was deemed to be OK

The lady must have been concerned that she was younger than 16

It is illegal as she's under 18 and both the girl and the parents have filed a complaint I think. If she was a willing participant, the penalty is lower. This has been successfully fought in court in Thailand with the argument that the accused was not aware of the age (only works if the minor is aged over 15) or deliberately misled.

Always worth reading up on the famous Big Ass case...

Ekarat Wongcharat, the leading vocal of Big Ass, made the headlines when a 17 year old model nicknamed "Fai" appeared with her baby "Justin" and claimed that Wongcharat was the baby's father in February 2006. Allegedly they had sex when Fai was 16 years old, meaning that Wongcharat would be a child sex offender if the accusation was true. Wongcharat was subsequently arrested and released on bail on 27 February. While Wongcharat gave his blood sample for DNA testing in March, Fai and Justin did not give theirs until early May. On 10 May 2006 police announced that the result was negative. A retest performed by Khunying Pornthip Rojanasunand drew the same conclusion. Even through he is not the child's father, the trial for the underage sex offense remained. The trial began on 13 February 2007 and the court decision was announced on 21 March 2007. He received two years of a suspended and must produce two anti-drug songs as pledged by the singer in exchange for a light sentence.

Did I get away with what? Walking into a short time hotel with a 16 year old girl in Thailand? Since when is that illegal?

It would be illegal, as a "Compoundable offence", if your little friend decided afterwards that she wanted you prosecuted:

"The Age of Consent in Thailand is 15 years old. The age of consent is the minimum age at which an individual is considered legally old enough to consent to participation in sexual activity. Individuals aged 14 or younger in Thailand are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory rape or the equivalent local law.

Thailand statutory rape law is violated when an individual has consensual sexual intercourse with a person under age 15. However, sex with a minor under age 18 is a compoundable offense, regardless of consent."

https://www.ageofconsent.net/world/thailand

Or her parents decided to blackmail you:

"........what this means is that a young person having sex with another person aged 15, 16, or 17 may be prosecuted for this “compoundable offence” if one participant (normally the girl), or their parent, were to file charges against the other side when they later decided they regretted what they had done. In effect, this makes the unfettered Thai age of consent to sex to be 18 years of age.

https://www.lannaist.ac.th/keeping-our-teenage-children-safe/

And just to make everything perfectly confused (TIT):

"A person is deemed an adult in Thailand at the age of 20 or at the time the child gets married. Parents have obligations and rights to the child until such time."

https://www.juslaws.com/articles/parent-and-child-rights-duties-in-thailand

Memo to OMF:  Strongly suggest you kick the teen habit.

It's not as simple as that!  If he had the girl's parents permission and they were to be married, he might get away with it.  But if not, it's 18.

Does he need the permission of the parents?

Or is it not illegal if the parents don't complain?

I wonder how many boys and men in Thailand ask the parents from 16 and 17 year old girls if they allow that they have sex with them.

It happens all the time all over Thailand (and the rest of the word).

Plenty of CCTV coverage reported in the link, even including how they looked in the lift. But all of their arrival. How did she look as she was leaving? Happy? Distressed? As usual, the reporter misses the most important part - but does tell us what clothes she was wearing and their colour. He did miss out the registration number of the motorcycle they arrived on though. Careless.

Exactly... the holding hands stuff is meaningless....given that it occurred on the way to the room.... not in the aftermath of whatever happened in the room thereafter....

If the hotel has footage of them heading into the room,  then presumably they have the same type of footage of them eventually leaving, apparently seprately, but there's no mention or description of that in the OP article whatsoever.

The time line in the article also seems to suggest the guy booked the room BEFORE he actually met the girl at the club... so apparently he went out that night intending to score with someone.

Since the OP article says he originally checked about 8pm Saturday night, then left, is said to have met the girl sometime after 10 pm, and then later returned to the hotel, presumably with her, around 3 am that early morning, before finally checking out around 10 am.

Above happened many years ago.

But I find it always amazing when people pretend guys having sex with teenagers (lets say age 16 to 19) is illegal. It's not.

And then there is of course the fact that many guys like barely legal sexy girls.

Just ask any bar manager which girls attract most of the guys.

I remember Long Gun from many years ago. All naked girls and they youngest of them (about 16) were right in front of the stage. That place was always packed. I guess most guests visited that place for granny (she was there since forever and well known). Or maybe not?

It is illegal to pay Children for sex .

Paying a 16 year old for sex is illegal under child prostitution laws

Could even face a child rape criminal charges

Basically, Yes. If the parents file a complaint, it's illegal. Even if their daughter/son was a willing participant.

No, age of consent is 15 or 16 in Thailand, if I am not mistaken. It's 18 only for paid sex with a prostitute. Also not applicable, we all know that there is no prostitution in LOS.

It wouldn't be statuory rape either way since she's 17 and 10 months, not 14, but she couldn't prove there was sex anyway, because there wasn't. She didn't claim sex - she claimed sexual assault.

They got to the hotel around 3am and by 4:30am she already managed to take pictures of him sleeping, call her friends to pick her up, and file charges with police - that's not a whole lot of time which certainly makes his side of the story seem valid.

He claims that he did not think she was underage when taking her to his room, they started messing around and he undressed her, but when she told him her ID was fake/doctored and she's actually 17 he came to his senses and told her they will not have sex but she can just sleep, and he went to sleep himself. She took pictures of him sleeping as "evidence", and called her friends to pick her up, after which they went to police.

Ironically, if they did have sex and she didn't "regret" it - it wouldn't be a crime - the "crime" here is that she regretted whatever happened. The whole ordeal is ridiculous considering she's 17 and 10 months - not a child. Old enough to fake an ID and go drinking, clearly knew what she was doing and what was going to happen, and the age is so close to 18 that it's just a technicality.

If the parents file a complaint

How often does that happen?

I guess with rich people that will motivate some greedy parents. Otherwise, nobody cares.

Yes, I think that's probably true. However, it's one of those things that's not a problem until it is.

I don't think it's as uncommon as you might think. I've seen it a few times with country folk, not necessarily for the money. A few years ago, the wife's 16-year old cousin had relations with a young guy a couple of years older. When this came out, it was everyone down to the police station, where his family signed an agreement that he would marry her. That was the only way her family would let it go.
He was a nice young guy and later on he was devastated when she left him.

I live here since almost 30 years, walking distance from that Soi.

Please ask anybody who used to go to Soi Cowboy in the good old times. You will find it difficult to find anybody who doesn't know that place and the attractions.

I am pretty sure some people only visited the Soi for that reason.

Regardless of what transpired, who would win, a gold medal winning boxing hero or a 17 yr old female nobody? :whistling:

Well, look at all the females in the West taking down super rich celebrities, many accusations historical and without much evidence.

When it's man vs woman in these kinds of matters, the woman often has the advantage.

I was drinking on Cowboy about 10 years ago when the police came in, half the staff walked out.

I asked the mamassan where they went. She replied, "Maybe they are underage"
