Sadiq Khan blocks late Queen statue in Trafalgar Square until 2030 in favour of 'woke' art

Not sure why they use the word woke with inverted commas. According to Wikipedia: "Woke is an adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination"

1. It is an American word. Why is the Telegraph using it?

2. It was created by African-Americans. Nothing to do with transgender art.

When a bigot throws the woke word at me. I ask them to explain the definition.

That always throws them.

Yes, well there you go. Confuse them with brilliance.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has sparked controversy by delaying the installation of a statue of Queen Elizabeth II in Trafalgar Square until 2030, favoring "woke" art instead.

Critics have condemned Khan's decision to reserve the Fourth Plinth, where the Queen's statue was intended to stand, for "woke" art installations until the end of the decade. The first piece slated for display is an installation featuring 850 faces of predominantly transgender individuals, many of whom were sex workers.

Tory mayoral candidate Susan Hall has vowed to reverse Khan's decision if elected, advocating for the relocation of the "woke" art to make way for the Queen's statue on the Fourth Plinth.

Expressing outrage at Khan's move, Hall highlighted his approval of Left-wing names for London Overground lines and the allocation of £1 million of public funds for Fourth Plinth installations in 2026 and 2028. This decision effectively postpones the installation of the Queen's statue until 2030 at the earliest.

Although Khan has not explicitly opposed a statue of the late Queen, he has not supported its placement in Trafalgar Square. Instead, he has backed the creation of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, chaired by a former Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, to explore memorial options.

The winning entry for the 2024 commission, "Improntas," is scheduled to be installed on the plinth in August, further complicating the potential placement of the Queen's statue.

Hall has pledged to collaborate with the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee and the Royal Family to establish a permanent memorial for the late Queen on the Fourth Plinth, necessitating the relocation of existing artwork.

Criticism has also been directed at the cost of the "woke" art installation, with taxpayers funding £140,000 for production costs and a £30,000 artist's fee. Future installations in 2026 and 2028 are expected to incur even higher expenses.

Public opinion on the "woke" art remains divided, with YouGov polling indicating that only 23 percent of Londoners approve of the installation, while 42 percent express disapproval.

Khan initially defended the art installation, stating that it would spark discussions about freedom and equality. However, his decision to prioritize "woke" art over the Queen's statue has reignited debate over the use of public spaces for political statements and artistic expression.

I feel compelled to tell all the gentle snowflakes so outraged by anything they term “woke” to Grow a Pair, because clearly they have none, so easily upset by matters of such minor importance in the overall scheme of things.

Yet, it seems that the woke is so easily offended by those that will not accept their ... wokeness!

The outrage, the self stoked grievance fed outrage of it all.

The Express assumes its readers can be diverted by the use of the word ‘woke’ from recollecting that a 1998 public consultation, commissioned by the Secretary of State and undertaken by Sir John Mortimer concluded the Fourth Plinth should be reserved for the display of continually replaced artwork and should not be used for the placement of any permanent statue.

The Forth Plinth has since become a popular visitor destination for art lovers and tourists alike.

London Elections 2024: What does Sadiq Khan’s sudden massive poll lead mean?

https://www.onlondon.co.uk/london-elections-2024-what-does-sadiq-khans-sudden-massive-poll-lead-mean/

Khan will always get 100% of the Muslim vote no matter how bad he is. Muslims will never vote for a non-Muslim given the choice.

That's a massive head start when you consider there are around 1.3 million Muslims living in London.

For that reason he can probably stay in the job for as long as he wants.

Especially as the last half of the 20th century was spent eradicating colonialism where the UK was casting off its old empire, or were you not around in those times?

Well, I can remember. It was 1806 and the French got the jitters. But it took another almost 30 years to abolish slavery. And what about the colonies? They are all independent or still ruled by the superior race? Every country got its own history. Some histories you'll better not remember: However, everybody remembers the German Holocaust if Gaza/Israel is mentioned.

It all happened and happens. No need for a statue glorifying the past. I mean Trafalgar.

When you say 'the colonies', I assume you're talking about the 14 remaining British Overseas Territories? They could become independent if they wanted to. They're not forced to remain BOTs.

Do you know why they don't? Because most of them have a population the size of a small town, no natural resources, and enjoy the security and protection of being a BOT.

The British Empire is in the past, and you need to move on.

Oh, so nothing to do with most of them (and the Crown Dependencies) being offshore tax dodgers paradises?

And of the rest, several are important strategic military outposts like Gibraltar, Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands, St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cuhna.

Can't let facts get in the way of the outrage machine. How will the poor little snowflake gammons survive without raging at "the woke" every morning over their cornflakes?
