They have clue.. They see all foreigners as tourists for a few weeks to spend their money here and leave. Long term expats and retirees are allowed here to sit at their home travel around the country and drink coffee, and the latest pay tax.. But they are not allowed to do even some volunteer work which on a retiring visa is impossible because you can't get a workpermit for free work on it.  So sit at home watch TV and go drink coffee and sometimes travel around ... That is retirement in Thailand and they are wondering why there are no people coming.

You need a work permit for everything that a Thai can't do, so no jobs left for long term expats

The immigration should start their clamp downs at the airport before they even get in, if they were to search all their luggage it would be easy to spot some one who intends to work here,

First dibs on the dressing up box also gets the blonde (photo 3)!

This was Thaksin's mantra the first time round.

Not a coincidence that the anti-foreigner rhetoric all ramps up again now that he is back in charge.

I wonder if they know how they look to foreign tourists visiting the country?

Brown-shirts with Kraut-Rommel hats, or dressed up in full SWAT gear like they are ready to take down Bin Laden.

I guess that's another way of saying until now they didn't care about such law violators.

What else did they not do while they were paid to do their job?

Because it's easy to get into the country, work illegally, or set up a business to employ illegal immigrants by bribing. My take on this is that all foreigners (except genuine tourists), including perpetual tourists, must be dealt with harshly, even for a minor infraction, unless they are from the neighboring countries. Foreigners and perpetual tourists who cannot live a decent life in their home country, let alone find a woman in their own land, travel 10,000 miles for a decent life, and then engage in working illegally, setting up businesses illegally, and overstaying. All these people must be dealt with very harshly to remind them that they cannot come to Thailand and violate local laws.

They never said or stated that. This piece of news are about Immigration and tourist police. As they work with foreigners and not with the local citizens, it´s only natural that they also give information about that.

Phuket ramps up tourist security measures ahead of visa-free travel
by Mitch Connor

The national commander of the Tourist Police, Police Lieutenant General Saksira Phueakam, and Police Major General Manat Sriwongsa, Deputy Commander of the Immigration Bureau, arrived in Phuket yesterday in a bid to enhance the safety and convenience for tourists visiting the popular holiday destination.

The visit saw them accompanied by Police Major General Phopphon Chakkaphak, Commander of Tourist Police Division 3. The high-ranking officials were in town to strategise and implement measures aimed at boosting confidence among tourists and preserving the integrity of Thailand’s booming tourism industry.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira explained that the national police commander, Police General Torsak Sukwimol, recently convened a meeting with top-ranking officers from the Tourist Police and the Immigration Bureau. The discussion centred on measures to ensure the safety of the increasing number of tourists visiting Thailand, especially in light of the recent implementation of visa-free measures by the government.

Phuket alone is set to welcome over a million foreign visitors in 2024, according to Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira. In response, Pol. Gen. Torsak has stressed the need for collective action among all police units to prevent and suppress any illegal activities perpetrated by foreigners in the country.

Or lack of hair, sometimes dyed.

This is all very well and the foreign offenders do need to be dealt with, but why aren't they dealing with the corrupt BIB offenders, as an urgent matter?

They should keep up with the news a bit more. Clearly, to solve all the problems they only need to ban people from Switzerland, since it's Swiss who've been causing all the problems in the last week or so. They're giving the angelic tourists from Britain an Australia a bad name! lol

That's a bingo !!!
