Fatal crash in Udon Thani as driver fatigue leads to tragedy

A tragic road accident occurred yesterday at 7.50am when a pickup truck veered off course and collided with a streetlight before plunging into the central ditch of Mittraphap Road in Udon Thani, Thailand. The driver, a 56 year old man from Udon Thani, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife, in her 50s, sustained injuries.

 

Witthaya Panlao, Chief of the Udon Thani Highway Police Volunteer Rescue Unit at the Non Sa-at service point, was alerted by a good samaritan to the crash involving a bronze Toyota Vigo with the license plate ฒห-869 Bangkok. Upon arrival, they discovered the vehicle in a state of total disrepair. The driver, identified as Chuad Krutlakorn, was found deceased, still strapped in with his seatbelt.

 

Rescue workers employed hydraulic extraction tools to remove his body, a process that took nearly an hour. He had sustained severe head injuries. His wife, who was also in the vehicle, was conscious and suffered from body aches and a laceration to her head, reported KhaoSod.

Initial investigations revealed that the couple was travelling from Chon Buri province to Udon Thani’s Ban Dung district to pick up their child for the school break. The cause of the accident is suspected to be driver fatigue, and the Kum Pha Wa Pi Police Station is conducting further inquiries to determine the precise cause.

In related news, a tragic road accident claimed the life of a young nurse who had only recently taken maternity leave. At 9am today, February 29, her car veered off course, hitting a man signalling for assistance before crashing into a roadside pole and falling into a drainage ditch. The nurse was pronounced dead at the scene inside her vehicle.

 

The incident occurred along the Sukhumvit Road in Chanthaburi, where the nurse’s car, a black Ford with registration number กต852 Chanthaburi, lost control and collided with the man and the signage pole. The force of the impact propelled the car into the adjacent drainage ditch, causing it to be severely damaged.

Yes, they have, but look at the world statistics, and you will see Thailand at the top 3 for at least a decade. That is probably why we say like that.

Sure it does. Nobody talked against that. What is a fact, though, is that Thailand have a far higher amount of both accidents and deaths in traffic per 100 000 citizens than about 90 % of the worlds countries. Do you get why we react on things now?

Have you ever driven on the 110 or 405 in LA?  There are lots of crazy drivers on those roads not to mention the Mexicans who perpetrate accidents to collect insurance payouts.  I have an accident every time I go back.  At my age, I’m not as cautious as I should be.
